It is always a fun mystery to see how images like this will turn out, so many factors can mess up a single long exposure, but I prefer to do one single long exposure versus overlaying multiple images to give the same effect. There is just something so mystifying about sitting there, watching the sky and your watch as you wait, shutter open, then finally closing the shutter, hoping for the best!
