Remembering Hurricane Helene – One Year Later
Today, September 26th, marks one year since Hurricane Helene swept through our region — a storm that changed countless lives forever.
First and foremost, our hearts are with all those who lost loved ones in this tragedy. Our deepest condolences, love, and prayers go out to every family who has had to carry on in the wake of such loss. We pray that God has been your comfort and strength through the healing process.
Today, as our feeds fill with images and videos of the devastation — reminders of the power of nature and the pain of loss — we want to take a moment to focus on what we believe is the true story that emerged from this storm:
People helping people.
In the face of unimaginable destruction, we saw neighbors become family, strangers become heroes, and communities rise together. We put aside our differences and showed what we’re truly capable of — love, compassion, and unity.
Helene revealed more than just the strength of the storm — it revealed the strength of our hearts.
Let us carry that same spirit forward every day — choosing kindness, lending a hand, and loving one another as we did when the world seemed to stop.
So let today serve not only as a reminder of those we lost and what we endured — but also of what we are capable of.
In a time when division and conflict seem to surround us, may we hold fast to the truth that we were created for community — to love and care for one another.
Let’s rise again in unity, compassion, and love — just as we did then.
And as we take this day of remembrance — let’s challenge ourselves to quiet our anger, to quiet our frustration, to slow down, listen more, love deeper, and seek understanding before judgment.
Let’s be the hands and hearts that bring peace into the spaces we occupy — because the same strength that carried us through the storm still lives within us today.
