PJ Kaszas Photography & Art

PJ Kaszas Photography & Art Wildlife Photography and Art I do art in service to animals, nature, science, and history. I tell stories using light, color, composition, and words.

I am a wildlife and documentary photographer as well as a writer, painter, poet, multimedia designer, world traveler, and a former archaeologist. For the past several years I’ve focused on photographing wild horses wherever they are found. But all the wild things we share our world with fascinate me. Through my photography I hope to share some of that wonder and curiosity, and especially show that

sometimes that wonder and curiosity, between photographer and subject, goes both ways and there is so much that the wild world around us can teach us. I am co-founder of Wild Horse Photography Collective () on Instagram) and Bonkers for Burros (), ever-growing communities of photographers devoted to documenting the lives of these amazing beings. When not traveling or wandering around with my camera, I can usually be found stuck on a train somewhere between Cape Cod and Boston, Massachusetts or on my couch reading a book.

Finally! The post all three of you who are paying attention to this have been waiting for! We have a gosling! Ma Goose and Husband 2 finally emerged from the far side of the pond and presented their baby for everyone to see. And by everyone I mean me. 🤣

Canada Goose goslings are precocial hatchlings meaning they can walk, swim, and find their own food within 24 hours of hatching. You can see Baby Goose here happily snacking on plant life with mom and dad at the end of the video.

This spring I only saw Mr. and Mrs. Swan twice. Once early in the spring and once more recently. If they had a nest it was unsuccessful. It was odd the Mr. Swan wasn’t around more. He’s notorious for being intimidating toward visitors to the pond. But this year there were no swans charging every other living thing on the pond. There were just peaceful days together and lots of grooming.

The Bonus Family and News!
I know the Ma Goose and Husband 2 have at least one baby but they have relocated to a rather inaccessible area of the pond. As I was hoping to catch a glimpse of them who emerges from reeds on that side of the pond? Ms. Mallard and her seven adorable offspring! I didn’t know there were mallards nesting nearby. This was such a surprise.

Ms. Mallard will raise these seven ducklings on her own. Once mallards nest the male divests himself from all responsibility. He plays no role in taking care of the eggs or raising the young.

Ma Goose spent many days sitting on her nest but a girl’s got to eat. She will leave the nest periodically to go snarf some food down as quickly as she can. With Husband 2 there to protect her.
