Cheryl here helping Bruce with a FB post. He's here with me while I'm cruising through some FB pages and he says, "Been going through fifty plus years of my handmade prints that I did in a wet darkroom. Many have been used in magazines such as Look and LIfe that have been given back to me over the years after I requested them. Now that I'm at a point of retiring, I would like to find good homes for these pictures, especially to people who will value them. Since these are original silver gelatin prints, they're a good investment as they grow more rare. Let me know if you are interested. I usually don't try to sell anything, but it's time to take care of these sorts of things during my final life's chapter. Let me know if you are interested. But, for now, I'm 90 and still on my feet!"

I am relieved to know our national parks are reopening as of today!

I’ll be taking a couple of days to travel the immediate area and get photos of storm damage for Science Source in NYC. This isn’t to grab pics of people’s misery but to document this significant storm and what happened in the aftermath. One park ranger downplayed the effects making it sound like just another summer storm. But it wasn’t. Cape Lookout remains closed after two weeks—will reopen next Tuesday if all goes as planned—and much of the environment has been negatively impacted. There are areas of North Carolina still waiting for rivers to go back down. One video a friend shared shows the drowned area of US 421 between Rocky Point and Wilmington. This won’t be a fun trip, but it is to tell future students about the power of wind and water. On a positive note, it is good to see people out cleaning up, smiling, and helping each other.

Take care—I’ll check back in soon.

I hope everyone is recovering from Hurricane Florence. We have damage, but our house is intact. I’ve never much liked tarps for a roof, but at least we are dry.

In all the years we’ve lived in North Carolina, we’ve never seen a storm like this. But I’d like to give a shout out to the wonderful people who came from out of state to repair power lines, offer food, offer help with cleanup, offer free tetanus shots, offer transportation for the elderly to make their doctor appointments, and for the great lift to our spirits during a difficult time. The last photograph I took was at Cape Lookout, and I look forward to going there again soon. Thank you, friends, for all your good wishes. If we all find someone to help just a little bit everyday, we’ll be fine. Special thanks to Eilene Smith for offering us refuge in her beautiful mountain home in Virginia.
