Jack! The first grad in front of my camera this year and the son of my former high school classmate Lacey :)

We made a trip back to our shared hometown of Pelican Rapids to shoot at her parents’ place for those lush, summery nature vibes, then met back up the next day at for a clean, minimal vibe.

Jack is effortlessly cool in front of the lens. Honestly, nothing makes you realize time is flying quite like photographing the kids of people you went to high school with! 😂

Class of 2027JackJack is a West Fargo Sheyenne High School senior (and the son of one of my high school classmates!). We ventured out to our hometown of Pelican Rapids, Minn., for a summery, nature vibe before heading to my Fargo studio the next day for a clean, minimal look.

Tonight is the night! The YWCA Cass Clay Women of the Year event is officially here. I always look forward to my annual headshot day with the nominees, and getting to meet this year’s group of 35 women was truly a highlight :)

Spring event season has officially begun! My April is chock-full of them, and last week it started off with a colorful bang at Hope Blooms's Petals for a Purpose event held at the Fargo Air Museum.

Late last year, I hit a creative slump.

Slumps are not uncommon in my line of work. I have heard plenty of accounts from creative friends who have fallen into times of apathy, inspiration droughts, and outright creative depression.

I, too, have had a slump or two in my career. I now know to expect that they will happen, react in some way, and then eventually find my way back. In the past, I've dug out in pretty extreme ways. I've rebranded a couple of times, quit photographing weddings, and even purchased a building.
This time, I decided that instead of doing something drastic, maybe I needed to go back to basics.

So, during holiday break, in an inspirational epiphany, it came to me: I would become a student again. Not in a formal way (I currently don't have time for that, y'all), but through self-led exploration.

At the start of 2026, I began my journey. One aspect of learning would be to do deep dives on accomplished creatives. To start, I put a list of names, mostly photographers, into a bucket. Each month (or so I told myself, though I've already changed my rules!) I would choose one name and learn all about that person.
The first name I chose was Henri Cartier-Bresson, the godfather of street photography.

This project is just one of the things I have planned for the year. It has been a joy to step back into a student’s shoes and embrace the fact that the more you know, the more you realize how much you have yet to learn.

How lucky Cartier Bresson was to have this gift, and how hard he must have worked to reach the point of knowing 100% the kind of storyteller he wanted to be. It is clear to me that my own photographer influences were influenced by him.

The art of travel is one of those things I feel in my soul, but haven’t been the best at executing.

A few years ago, after the hundredth daydream of taking my kids on an epic adventure out of the Midwest, I finally started saving for a trip. We originally planned to take their first big adventure to Europe, but we decided to stay stateside and explore the most International city in the world: New York City.

My goal of hooking my kids on travel was achieved. They adored NYC. It's busy. It's beautiful. It's absolutely magical in the most human way possible. Plus, there is an absolute abundance of $1.50 pizza (which totally won the 11-year-old over.)

As a photographer, I saw photos everywhere. But my role on this trip was mom and to keep everyone alive, happy, and out of New Yorkers' way. So, I took photos when I could and slightly mourned the images that passed me on the bustling streets.

I can't wait to go back to capture a fraction of this beautiful city.

It had been about 17 years since I last visited the city, and while so much has changed, the core energy has not. From the moment we stepped off the plane, I felt like we were on a fast-moving conveyor belt. The city can easily overwhelm your senses and somehow make you feel like you are part of som
