New addition to the El Paso CO Wildflower Project 💜

Purple Clematis

This one feels a little unfair.

Some wildflowers demand attention from a distance. Others hide in plain sight and reward slowing down enough to notice them.

Purple Clematis somehow manages to do both.

One of the things I’m enjoying most about building this project is seeing how much variety exists right here in El Paso County when you start paying attention to what’s blooming. The guys show up as a range between purple, blue, and even as pale as nearly white.

New addition to the El Paso CO Wildflower Project 🌼

**Yellow Lady’s Slipper Orchid**

It’s one of those wildflowers that almost doesn’t look real the first time you see it. Bright, unusual, and surprisingly easy to walk right past if you aren’t paying attention.

That’s one of the things I’m enjoying most about this project so far. The more time I spend looking for wildflowers, the more I realize how much beauty exists just a few feet off the trail.

The Richardson’s Geranium page just received a big update 🌸

I’ve added several new photographs to help show how this beautiful wildflower can vary across bloom stages, lighting, and perspective.

One of the things I’m hoping the El Paso CO Wildflower Project becomes over time is more than a list of species. I’d love for it to become a growing collection that shows how different people see the same flower.

Controversial photography question:

If a scene is a little… overgrown…

do you trim it?

Not in Photoshop.

In real life.

Move the stick.
Pull the dead grass.
Relocate the distracting pine cone.
Perform a little environmental grooming.

Or is touching the scene completely off limits?

Looking back at this image… I may have been too committed to the natural look.

Ever wish you could have a shoot back? That's how I am with this one. I don't even recall the blades of grass. Tho, I was walking out, and had somewhere to be, so I was in a hurry. With that I was too lazy to get my tripod out or take my time. Great morning tho!

It’s a community-built field guide where we can explore, photograph, and document the wildflowers that make our county such an incredible place to live.
