Sharing! It’s easy to tell if someone loves the miracles which unfold at the beginning of life!

“A cord of 3 strands is not easily broken.

1 vein + 2 arteries = 3

The umbilical cord. It's the cord of life. Not easily kinked or broken thanks to the flawless design and all that good jelly it's filled with. It will grow longer during pregnancy to accommodate the baby. As the baby gains strength and activity increases, traction happens and the cord gets progressively longer. Every detail in just the right time.

Speaking of detail...did you know this?!
The umbilical cord also becomes a temporary home within a home. Early in pregnancy because of rapid growth of the baby's intestines and the fast growing rate of the developing liver and kidneys, the intestines can move out and into the umbilical cord until the baby's belly grows large enough to house it again.
A natural phenomenon.

Your baby will marvel at the umbilical cord, play with it, depend on it.
You can burn it, preserve it, oil it, heart it, save it, bank it, wear it.

Whatever you do, drink deep...new life is incomparable to anything else. Each detail... as your baby is being knit together in the womb is worth slowing down for and taking in. There's nothing better than this.”

You're spoiling him too much
You'll regret that, they said
They denied us of our rods
And filled our hearts with dread

You're not doing yourself any favours
You should nip that in the bud, they said
Don't you want your evenings back?
You'll never get him out your bed

THEY SAID
THEY SAID
THEY SAID

Sleep training culture
Were you supposed
To save our tears?
Because you only added to them
By planting doubts and fears
And by stealing parents' joy
For the last one hundred years

But the tide is
Starting to turn now
There's a new voice
On the rise
And we're taking back the role
You had us inconvenienced by

In ourselves we trust
And instinct is our guide
We’ll meet them
At their point of need
At this crucial time of life

And WE SAY
This is normal
And WE SAY
This is fine

Sleepless nights and sacrifice
Are par for the course
Because Mother stands for comfort
And I’m so glad to be yours

You see this... now turn your phone to landscape, either way... can you see the difference in the angle that the baby and pelvis make?

Your baby has a more direct exit if you are in an upright position.

If you are laying on your back, your baby has to travel round a bend to be born, which can take slightly longer in many cases.

The priority is your comfort and your instincts, you get in the position that feels right for you at the time. It is always worth baring in mind though, that it can help to change position 😊

Have you had any thoughts about birth positions?

Thank you
