28 ניסן 5784 יום הזיכרון לשואה ולגבורה
Today we set aside to honor the millions of lives lost in the Holocaust. We remember their lives and the entire worlds that, with them, are also forever gone.
So too we remember those righteous among nations who protected European Jews during that dark time in history when hate manifested into reality attempted to annihilate a people.
Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, preserves the history so that we will never again see such destruction among humanity.
Norman Gersham's documentation of those Albanian families who sheltered and fed those escaping sure death are but a few of the righteous honored at Yad Vashem.
Most were ordinary people who did not think they were doing anything heroic but did what was to them, simply human.
Norman's joy at discovering these families and hearing their stories held deep meaning for him as he believed in the best of humanity shining through as possibility of what we can always be.
Below is a link for more history of history we remember today. Norman Gershman's documentation is but a part of the many righteous who set an example for us all.
