β„οΈπŸ’¨Return to winter has me thinking back to a few weeks ago. It was a most memorable powder day for a number of reasons, first being a sunny 🌞 powder day in the NEK. What I’ll remember most was the friendliness and camaraderie of everyone I met along the way. A shared appreciation of all being in the moment. Locals picking up strangers hitchhiking, people offering others first tracks, and smiles all around. A great experience that reaffirmed my faith in the ski/ snowboard culture.

The temperature was -5 F, wind was 15 mph with 20-30mph gusts, which translates to feel like temp of -25.8F according to wind chill calculator. Basically really really cold. You have to really enjoy winter to want to go out in these conditions but also need preparation. I have learned all sorts of tricks and techniques to keep your equipment and yourself ready to go over the years. Many from others while most have been trial and some errors.

Reflecting back on many winter adventures I am always satisfied doing it. Seeing things first hand that many don't or care too. Appreciating all my friends that have allowed me to join them or joined me in searching for moments! Cheers .barranco .travels and many others πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ» stay safe santa πŸŽ…

Eamon O'Shea's Birthday Session - VT to ME and back -The story starts with an idea of a surf trip that becomes realized as we find ourselves the next day squeezing into wetsuits and walking onto the coast of Maine with old friend Jimmy Dick. After some great knee to chest high fun for several hours our birthday boy is the last man out, not to shabby. Some of us had enough of the 50 degree water and wind that whipped the warmth out of our tired bodies. A quick walk to the casa for some dry clothes we were welcomed by an amazing sunset. It seemed to get better and better as we recapped our best rides and bails of the evening. Having worked up an appetite all we could think about was who the hell has the best bean burrito in town? The Fisherman's Catch Restaurant didn't have our burritos but had some quality seafood and paper towel rolls hanging above the tables, genius! So in tune with what cures heavy arms and sore shoulders we decide that an 18 pack of PBR's was the ticket for the nightcap. Upon waking and knowing a cold morning awaited us the stoke idled when we learned frost clung to our wetsuits. A few moments in the sun and on the hood of a warm car the stoke returned. A brief consultation with Jim D about his early bird session had us ready and psyched for cleaner waves. Hooking up with Thomas Todd Saulnier for some local knowledge, tips, and extra enthusiasm had the 41 degree morning seemingly warmer. Several more hours of knee to chest high rides and bails had some of us yielding arms of lead. The birthday boy seemed to have some extra mojo. An old spectator on the beach sporting a NY Giants sweat shirt was nodding his approval of his rides. Might have been what helped him to another extended session. Waving back to us like a little kid one more, one more. Walking away with Kool Aide smiles and stories of the wave that was the best of the day made packing up the car a little bitter sweet. Only thing left to do was to pack our cooler up with fresh seafood and reminisce on the ride home. Many thanks to Wheels N Waves for the rental boards and the apartment on such short notice. Special thanks to the man known as Captain America to the many Griswolds for letting us invade your piece of paradise for a few days.
