Last night while Tim was gardening, a baby squirrel fell out of our oak tree and nearly landed on him. 😬

Following the guidance of our local wildlife rehabilitation facility, Pacific Wildlife Care, we left the baby outside for a period of time and cleared to the area to see if mom would return to retrieve it. When she did not come back, we used gloves to carefully place the baby into a box with a blanket and some heat support to rest overnight until we could bring it to their facility the following morning.

This morning I went out to check on it, gave it new hand warmers, then went to go look at the tree in the daylight to see if I could spot a nest. To my surprise, another little baby was laying on the ground! I placed the second baby in the same box next to the first, on top of another hand warmer. 🐿️🐿️

I brought them both to Pacific Wildlife Care this morning where they were quickly taken inside to be warmed up more thoroughly and examined.

This is a good reminder that spring is now upon us, and we will surely be seeing more baby animals all around us. Keep in mind that human intervention is not always the best course of action. In most cases, reuniting a baby with its mother is the best possible outcome, and one that often requires a hands off approach. If you find a baby animal in need, call your local wildlife rehabilitation facility or follow the guidance of a trusted source online. They are trained professionals who handle these scenarios with frequency and will know what actions you can take that keep the animal’s wellbeing and your own safety in mind.

🤞Fingers crossed for these two little babies. I have since scoured our yard and roof to make sure there aren’t any others! Super grateful for the guidance and hard work the folks at PWC provide! 💕

It is extremely hard to process the level of inhumanity and severe lack of empathy required to carry out the actions that we have been witnessing.

It’s so important that we don’t look away, but rather continue to seek understanding and utilize what we witness to fuel and guide meaningful action. I’ve heard so many stories about neighbors, communities, cities banding together and supporting each other to overcome what seem like insurmountable odds. Now more than ever we need to tune in to our local politics (and beyond) so we can continue to stand up for what’s right.

Getting connected with local mutual aid or activist groups is a great place to start, and there are also national trainings being led by Indivisible and other groups to provide you with the tools and knowledge for how to respond & disrupt, or support those impacted. We all have different strengths and different ways we can show up right now, but all of us can do something.

✊🏼 Don’t support businesses/streaming services/etc. that fund or support ICE - also think of your camera or social media platforms (like this one) that are sending massive amounts of data to support ICE, use these tools wisely and with caution
✊🏽Call your representatives, every god damn day
✊🏾Show up to local board of supervisor meetings - what are your elected officials doing to stop this?!
✊🏿Write letters, make art, spread the word, share peoples’ stories
✊🏼Protest
✊🏽Support your neighbors, support undocumented families in your community or other families who may be targeted simply due to racial profiling
✊🏾Keep showing up.

I finally got this design on my website for sale so that I can raise funds for to aid them in supporting our undocumented neighbors along the Central Coast.

If you’d like to support them directly to donate, volunteer, etc., go to their website here:

PS I spent a week recarving this to make it even better…just to end up liking the original more. 🫠 I hope you like it, too.

In solidarity with our immigrant communities, in solidarity with our communities of color, in solidarity with Minnesota, and with all those impacted by the harmful and egregious actions of ICE.

F**k ICE.

We are all one people. No one is free until we’re all free.

This is not a finished product but I wanted to get this message out there in support of all the protests, vigils, strikes, and other movements happening this weekend and to contribute to the collective voice. I hope to make this artwork available on my website soon to raise funds for 805UndocuFund to support local families and community members on the Central Coast.

The final slug of my sea slug series from our recent tide pooling excursion, the white-spotted sea goddess 👸🏼, Doriopsilla albopunctata. They may be less flashy than the Hermissenda but their tiny speckles and frilly gill poofs are still adorable to me 🥹🥰

There’s nothing quite like the electric blue iridescence of the Opalescent nudibranch, Hermissenda crassicornis.

In researching these tiny predators, I learned that they will use the stinging nematocysts of their small sea anemone prey and apply them to their own cerrata as a defense mechanism. Very resourceful!

Thanks to for the fun fact and shoutout to for teaching me the term cerrata!

New year’s tide pooling introduced us to so many cutie nudi’s! This was by far the most species of nudibranchs I’ve found during a single tide pooling session, and I saw species I’ve never seen before. More photos of other species to come, but I’m starting it off by sharing this adorable little clown dorid, Triopha catalinae.

Our coastlines are facing a renewed threat of offshore oil drilling. The Tr*mp administration has proposed a plan to explore more than 1.2 BILLION acres of the US coastline for NEW offshore oil development. This includes the entire coast of California, nearly the entire coast of Alaska, and a majority of the Gulf of Mexico (yes, Gulf of MEXICO).

All activities involved in the process of oil drilling (pre-exploration, construction, operation & extraction, transportation, and the use & burning of oil) are harmful to our coastal ecosystems in a multitude of ways. Not to mention the inevitable spills that damage and degrade miles and miles of coastline and devastate coastal economies. We have witnessed the harmful impacts of this industry on our oceans and coastal communities before, particularly through the devastating effects of large oil spills such as BP Horizon of 2010.

This plan is not economical, not necessary, and doesn't utilize common sense. It's imperative that we stand up against these threats to preserve our US coastlines for recreation, wildlife, the climate, our own health, and the overall health of our planet.
