One of my favorite areas of photography is studio portraiture.
Having complete control of the lighting and environment allows everything else to fall away. The technical side becomes intuitive—almost invisible—and that’s what creates the space to truly connect with the person in front of the lens.
As Ansel Adams once suggested, it can take years for the equipment to become transparent. When it does, the focus shifts entirely to the subject—their presence, their expression, who they are.
That connection is what brings authenticity into the frame—and ultimately creates portraits that feel genuine, confident, and human.
