Story Behind the Photo:

My final destination before heading home was a visit to the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, CA—a place that never fails to delight. The extraordinary rock formations resembling another planet create a surreal landscape. The juxtaposition of these unique red rock formations against the vast Sierra Nevada mountain range turns the scenery into a photographer’s dreamland.

As I drove through, I noticed the sun positioning itself to set just behind the towering mountain peak in front of me. Recognizing the potential for an amazing shot, I promptly set up my camera and tripod, envisioning the composition I desired. Patiently, I waited for the sun to dip behind the peak, anticipating the atmospheric glow it would cast. As the moment arrived, the glow lit up the scene with the exact ethereal quality I had hoped for.

Given that my view was backlit, I anticipated that the colors might be washed out in the photograph. Consequently, I made the deliberate choice to transform the image into black and white. This decision allowed me to emphasize the interplay between light and shadow, creating a more dramatic and evocative composition.

My favorite picture from my trip to Bishop last month.

"Raod Trip"
My favorite moment for capturing landscape photographs is during dawn. Unlike sunset, this period is usually devoid of people, offering a serene and tranquil atmosphere as I eagerly await the gradual emergence of light. This memorable sunrise experience I got to photograph this breathtaking scenery of the Sierra Nevada mountain range from Hwy 168 as I ventured into the wilderness of Bishop, CA. This unforgettable time was shared with my daughter during our first weekend road trip, just the two of us. With the sun rising behind us, its golden rays illuminated the mountain peaks, transforming them into a mesmerizing display reminiscent of a matchstick being lit.

Growing up in Southern California, I missed out on the quintessential Fall experience that others in different locations enjoy. Nonetheless, Fall has always held a special place in my heart—the vibrant colors, the falling leaves, and the crisp air. Many of my favorite landscape photographs were taken during this season. With just a single glance at any of them, the unmistakable essence of Autumn is captured.

There's a unique joy in taking a walk surrounded by trees adorned with autumn hues, with sunlight filtering through the branches. This afternoon, during one of these walks along a creek in Big Pine, CA, I seized a perfect opportunity to capture that magical feeling in a photograph.

"Go With the Flow"
Bishop Oct. 2023

Capturing a picture that encapsulates so much nostalgia is truly extraordinary. As a child, I used to embark on camping and fishing adventures in Bishop with my dad. To find myself sitting by Bishop Creek, the very same creek I used to fish in as a kid, with my daughter, who is the same age I was during those trips, was a truly special moment. We eagerly waited in the crisp air, anticipating the moment the preview would appear on the back of the camera. With the assistance of a new ND filter, I achieved a 4-minute exposure, transforming the water into a silky, flowing stream. Not only was I able to capture a picture brimming with nostalgia, but it was made even more enchanting by the backdrop of vibrant autumn colors adorning the creek. This image now serves as a poignant reminder of my youth and the precious moment I was fortunate enough to relive with my own daughter.

While driving through Bishop, I came across these trees adorning the mountainside, showcasing the last remnants of autumn's vibrant hues. Captivated by the scene, I reached for my camera and began capturing the moment. Nature, in its breathtaking splendor, often resembles a finely crafted painting. I can't help but envision that when God crafted the world, it was akin to an artist meticulously working on a blank canvas, conjuring a magnificent masterpiece out of the void.

"Stop and Look Up"

Stop to Look Up:

I love Autumn, with its magnificent display of colorful leaves gently descending from the trees to carpet the ground. It's truly a captivating season. However, residing in Los Angeles means missing out on the traditional October experience that others in regions with all four seasons enjoy. To experience the vibrant beauty of October, I need to embark on a five-hour journey north to the Sierra Nevada, which I did this past weekend.

Upon reaching the Bishop area, I happened upon a place called Aspendell, and to my sheer delight, I was surrounded in a grove of Aspen trees adorned with stunning yellow leaves. Excited to capture the moment I stopped and began taking photographs. Just when I thought I was ready to wrap up, I decided to switch to a wide-angle lens and gazed upward. That's when I took this remarkable shot, serving as a poignant reminder that sometimes the most breathtaking view is above us.
