Well, it's official. While I will still be doing water photography, I'm RETIRED as of 10/19/24 from shooting anything BUT underwater. My body has decided this, not me. I'll still be doing book editing, writing for the three magazines, drone work, and web builds, but I have to say goodbye to shooting weddings. Trust me, it's heartbreaking beyond words, and equally as difficult to say out loud, but it's the right move. I'll be updating my sites to reflect the changes at some point over the next "however many" months.

I've loved my moments with all of you over the years, and pray that my work captured forever memories for you to reflect upon for years to come.

I have more blessings than I can count, yet this picture says it all for me. As I sit here recovering from stomach cancer surgery, I think about the challenges that have happened in just 12 short months: breast cancer surgery and treatment, losing my dog, losing my Dad, broken rib, shingles, and ICU with critical blood loss that led to finding the stomach tumors. I feel like I'm chasing my tail and digging down deep for the strength to get through it all. God has blessed me with countless miracles along the way, not the least of which includes my amazing friends, my amazing family, and my amazing husband. I remain grateful every day for the prayers from friends and acquaintances near and far. Trust me, I'm 117 pounds of pure tenacity. You, me, and God. We got this. I feel better every single day, my prognosis is VERY good, and I let hope and faith guide me every moment of every day.

My first call of the day was this gentleman, who I wrote a cover story for. His memory is starting to slip, and he wanted me to know that when he's feeling down, he reads about his life, and it makes him happy again. If I have one mission in life, it's to show love and grace to people and make some kind of difference in their lives. He told me that I'd given him a gift, and he was grateful. THIS is what it's all about.

Y'all. My son John is getting married! And guess what? I am THE luckiest future Mom-In-Law in the WORLD because he chose Jenae. She's an incredible woman, the sweetest thing in the world, and I absolutely love her! Also, easiest couple in the world to shoot. Their energy is undeniable. I'm sooooo happy for them. It was easy to say yes when they asked me to head to Charlotte for a mini e-sesh!

WOW. It's been forever since I posted anything on my page. But since I'm couch-bound recovering from surgery, I was cruising through some photos and such. Back to work starting tomorrow, but this one was so fun I had to share. I was out paddle boarding with the husbie a while back, and this guy was very curious about my camera. It's not a perfect shot by any means, but man, it was fun!

As I send this wedding home today, I can't help but reflect on the enormous amount of love and joy present that day. Trent and Sarah, I wish you a whole great big beautiful life of happiness. I truly do.

We all know I’m not a good chick. I spend most days in front of a computer in what I call “day jammies”. (translation: yoga pants, etc.) hair in a messy bun, and absolutely no makeup. When I’m shooting, I’m in functional clothes with supportive shoes. So when I decided to do this “Beauty Over 50” shoot with an amaaaazing brand photographer, I knew I wanted my wardrobe to be exactly ME. But, I also wanted to feel beautiful and did full hair and makeup. With the exception of one black velvet dress and some FMP’s, I stayed in my favorite t shirt, pajama jeans, yoga pants, and comfy pants. I fulfilled a 20 year promise to Dave and repurposed my “f’king funeral shoes.”

I haven’t spoken publicly about my heart attacks almost 3 years ago. I was afraid of the world and everything in it. It took a long time to want to show up in life and start dreaming again. I felt broken and useless for a long time, but kept fighting every day no matter what.

I wanted to do this shoot not only because I needed new brand shots, but because I wanted to feel unbroken and beautiful. And at the age of 56, I can confidently say to anyone who ever doubted me, mistreated me, diminished my self esteem, or tried to break me, “How’s 56 treatin’ ya? ‘Cause I’m just gettin’ started. My best years are in front of me, are yours?” I encourage all women to do something like this. When you do, I strongly suggest Miriam Bulcher. Full stop.
