We never thought we would be so excited about masonry work!
We’re thrilled to share that brick detailing has picked up speed this morning at the new park with restrooms on the northeast corner of the square! In fact, the wall facing the square (opposite this side) is nearly complete.
These locally sourced bricks are affectionately known as Cream City brick! Our goal with the entire project is to reflect and enhance the downtown’s historic charm.
These bricks are constructed out of clay and were one of the most common building materials used in Milwaukee during the mid to late 1800’s, giving the city the nickname "Cream City” because of the cream color.
Complete details, including how to support the project, on the project can be found on our website at MainStreetMonroe.org/restrooms. The project is approximately 95% funded. No city of Monroe taxpayer dollars are being used for the project!
