A year ago this month, I took a leap of faith and quit my full time career that I spent 4 years in college for so I could pursue my photography business, and I truly can’t believe how far this business has come in not even a full year. The amount of support, referrals, returning clients, and trust you’ve all given me with some of your most important moments has meant more than I could ever begin to explain.
I haven't always had this support. I haven't always been rooted for. I’ve even been told I would never make it, and that photography isn't a “real” job.
I believed it. I gave up. I set my camera down and didn’t pick it back up again for YEARS.
But this is as real as anything I’ve ever done.
The moments I capture are important. Your newborn in those hazy first few months when the days all seemed to blur together, and preserving every last tiny detail before they change. The dimpled hands of your boisterous toddler in yours during the one moment of stillness you swear they’ve had all day. The spark of connection between your future forever and that shiny new hunk of promises and new beginnings on your hand. A belly full of the tiniest miracle in the last few weeks of anticipation before they finally make their arrival. Generations of love surrounding the two people who fell in love and created the most important people in their lives.
Sometimes a photo is just a photo. But sometimes, a photo is the last reminder of a chapter before it’s closed. Sometimes it’s the last memory someone has of a person they lost. Sometimes a photo doesn’t feel profound until it’s the only way you can go back.
Motherhood changed the way I see the world. This season of my photography is more for the real moments and less for the posed ones. Less of you looking at me, more of you looking at them. Candid and lived in.
