Beechwood Golf Course: Where Golf Still Feels Like Golf
There are golf courses you travel to because they’re famous, and then there are golf courses you keep coming back to because they feel like home. Beechwood Golf Course in Arcanum, Ohio, falls squarely into that second category.
With 27 holes spread across three distinctly different tracks, Beechwood offers plenty of variety without ever losing that comfortable, "down-home" character that makes a round here so enjoyable. The greens and tee boxes were in great shape, and the course provides exactly what many golfers are looking for: a fun, affordable place to play where you can relax, hit some good shots, laugh at the bad ones, and enjoy the company you're with.
And then there’s the staff.
Friendly, welcoming, and downright neighborly is probably the best way to describe them. You don't feel like you're walking into a business where you're just another customer. You feel like you're walking into a place where everybody knows everybody. The kind of place where the people behind the counter could just as easily be friends you've grown up with.
That old-school familiarity is a big part of Beechwood's charm.
This is the perfect course for a weeknight round with the boys after work. You can almost picture your dad coming home at the end of the workday, throwing the clubs in the truck, grabbing a couple of buddies, and heading out for nine or eighteen holes before dark.
In fact, Beechwood feels like exactly the kind of course your dad would have introduced you to when you were learning the game.
The layout isn't overly challenging, either. There are plenty of wide-open fairways, giving golfers room to swing the club without feeling like every shot has to be perfect. There are several water holes that add some strategic decisions and excitement, including a couple of beautiful, scenic par threes that are as aesthetically pleasing as they are fun to play.
It's golf without the intimidation factor.
The pro shop is appropriately scaled down, but you'll find plenty of golf balls and the basic necessities you might need. And with indoor and outdoor banquet facilities, Beechwood is also well suited for corporate outings, golf scrambles, charity events, and group functions. For companies and organizations throughout Preble County, Montgomery County, the Dayton area, and surrounding communities, this is the kind of facility that makes organizing a golf event easy without breaking the bank.
Speaking of affordability, the pricing is another reason Beechwood deserves some attention:
$37 for 18 holes with a cart on weekdays
$43 for 18 holes with a cart on weekends
That's the kind of pricing that makes you want to play another nine instead of heading home.
Let's be honest: Beechwood isn't Augusta National, and it's not trying to be some high-end destination resort. But that's not the point.
Beechwood is plenty adequate for something arguably more important — a great golf experience, making memories, and having an overall good time.
And if I lived in the surrounding area, this is absolutely the type of course I'd want to be a member of. Not just because of the golf, but because of the friendships, camaraderie, and familiarity that come with being part of a local golf community.
You'd see the same faces. You'd get to know the staff. You'd run into people you've played with before. You'd probably make a few new friends along the way.
That's what makes places like Beechwood special.
It's 27 holes of affordable, approachable golf wrapped up in a friendly, neighborly atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you don't have to worry about impressing anybody. Just grab your clubs, bring your buddies, and go play.
Because at the end of the day, that's what golf is supposed to be about.
Good people. Good friends. Good golf. And a whole lot of good memories.
Beechwood Golf Course checks all those boxes.
