Shout out to an excellent club fitter at PXG Cincinnati, Jacob Alexander and the rest of the team. Great overall customer service and an outstanding golf experience.

Have you ever been on a “first date” that was AWSOME? It was one of those dates where everything was perfect. So perfect that you were “smitten” and had a feeling that “this may be the one”. You told all your friends and anyone that would listen that this date was almost too good to be true. But then as future dates came and went, the flaws and red flags began to surface.

However, when you find that the second, third and tenth date are just as perfect, it is only then that you realize that you may have met your “soul mate”.

Such was the experience that I had on a “first date” experience with Cherokee Hills Golf Course in September last year of 2025.

So as I made my way from Monroe, Ohio for charity golf outings in Bowling Green and Michigan on June 2nd of 20206, I wondered if the second date with the course would live up to the first and it most certainly did.

Cherokee Hills Golf Course in Bellefontaine, Ohio, continues to prove why it's one of the true hidden gems of Ohio golf. This was my second visit to the course, and somehow it managed to exceed all expectations once again.

From the moment you arrive, you're greeted by an exceptionally friendly and accommodating staff that genuinely makes you feel welcome. Combine that with very affordable, economical green fees, and you're already off to a great start before ever stepping onto the first tee.

The course itself is an absolute delight. The immaculate fairways are beautifully landscaped and maintained, while the velvety smooth greens roll true and reward good putting. Course conditions throughout are outstanding, showcasing the pride and care that goes into maintaining this property.

What really sets Cherokee Hills apart are its unique holes and creative designs. Every few holes seem to offer a different look, challenge, or memorable shot opportunity, making this a fun track that never feels repetitive. It's the kind of course that keeps you engaged from the first tee to the final putt.

This visit was especially memorable because I scored the first albatross of my golfing life here—a moment I'll never forget and one that makes Cherokee Hills even more special in my personal golf journey.

Overall, Cherokee Hills delivers an absolutely enjoyable Class-A golf experience. Between the outstanding conditions, friendly atmosphere, unique layout, and tremendous value, it's a course that deserves far more recognition than it receives. If you're a golfer in Ohio, Cherokee Hills isn't just a hidden gem—it's a must-stop bucket-list destination for golf in southwestern Ohio.

One of the most over-used cliches when describing golf courses is the term “hidden gem”. However, tucked away in the rolling countryside of Rushville Indiana, Antler Pointe Golf Club is TRULY the definition of a hidden gem.

Sitting almost perfectly halfway between Cincinnati and Indianapolis, this golf-only property delivers the kind of experience that reminds you of the days when your dad might come home from work and take you out for a weeknight round. It’s relaxed, welcoming, affordable, and completely free of pretentiousness.

They are not in the GOLF COURSE business, they are in the GOLF EXPERIENCE business.

From the moment you arrive, the vibe is completely different. The staff don’t act like they’re tolerating your presence — they genuinely seem appreciative that you chose to spend your day there. Friendly, accommodating, and down-home in the best possible way, Antler Pointe creates an atmosphere that feels comfortable and inviting before you even tee off.

The owner of the course may actually pull up and ask you how they can improve your experience. If he doesn’t then Mr. Collier is certain to!

And once you do tee off, the course absolutely delivers.
The front nine offers a more open, approachable style of golf that invites you to swing freely and enjoy yourself. It’s playable without being boring, scenic without trying too hard, and incredibly enjoyable for all skill levels. Then comes the back nine — a completely different personality. The course transitions into a tighter, more challenging woodland track that demands accuracy, smart course management, and a little courage. The contrast between the two nines gives Antler Pointe a unique identity that keeps the round engaging from start to finish.

Condition-wise, this place punches way above its price point. The fairways are near-perfect and beautifully maintained, while the greens are exceptionally well-conditioned and roll pure. You can tell there’s pride in the upkeep here. Everything feels cared for without feeling corporate or overproduced.

Yes, there area couple of tee boxes that suffer from stress and excess soil compaction and there is an unpaved and sometimes rough cart path but the carts are in great condition and the majority of the budget has went into the things that golfers really care about, fairways and greens.

At roughly $39 up to $49 on weekends for 18 holes, Antler Pointe might be one of the best golf values in the region. It’s not trying to be a flashy resort or a country club experience — and honestly, that’s its charm. It’s simply a really good golf course with good people, a relaxed atmosphere, and two distinctly fun nines that make you want to come back again.

Antler Pointe is the kind of place golfers love discovering and almost hesitate telling others about because once word gets out, tee times might get a whole lot harder to find.

If you’re searching for one of Southwest Ohio’s most complete and memorable golf experiences, Shaker Run Golf Club delivers on every level—and then some.
Established in 1979, Shaker Run has built a legacy that blends championship-caliber design with natural beauty. The original Woodlands and Lakeside nines opened that year, setting the tone for what has become a premier 27-hole facility, later expanded with the addition of the Meadows course. Today, golfers can enjoy three distinct and equally compelling tracks—Woodlands, Lakeside, and Meadows—each offering its own personality, shot values, and scenery.

What truly sets Shaker Run apart is its aesthetic appeal. Rolling terrain, mature trees, and sparkling water features frame nearly every hole, creating a visually stunning backdrop that makes every round feel special. Whether you’re navigating the tree-lined corridors of Woodlands, the scenic water-lined challenges of Lakeside, or the open, player-friendly feel of Meadows, the course consistently delivers both beauty and playability.

The finishing holes on both Woodlands and Lakeside—each a dramatic No. 9—are among the most memorable in the region. They offer that perfect blend of risk and reward, demanding just enough precision to keep things interesting while providing a picturesque stage to close out your round in style.

In recent years, including a change in ownership within the past couple of years, Shaker Run has seen renewed energy and continued investment, further enhancing the overall experience. The result is a course that not only honors its history but continues to evolve for today’s golfer.

Beyond the fairways, Shaker Run shines as a destination. It’s an incredible place to create lasting memories—whether that’s a weekend round with friends or a full-scale corporate outing. The spacious banquet center and event meeting hall provide an ideal setting for gatherings of all sizes, pairing professional service with sweeping views of the course.

At its core, Shaker Run Golf Club is more than just a place to play—it’s a complete golf experience. From its rich history and 27-hole versatility to its breathtaking scenery and top-tier event facilities, it stands as one of Ohio’s true golf gems.

Tucked away in eastern Indiana, just a short drive from Cincinnati, Liberty Country Club is the kind of place that reminds you why you fell in love with golf in the first place—simple, welcoming, and rooted in tradition.

Established in 1927, this nearly century-old course is proudly approaching its 100th anniversary, and you can feel that history the moment you arrive. Liberty, Indiana itself is a quiet, small-town setting, and the club reflects that same laid-back charm.

But don’t let the age fool you—this course is clearly investing in its future. Recent improvements are evident throughout the property, from upgraded course conditions to the little details that elevate the experience. New golf carts keep the round smooth, fresh flags give the greens a crisp look, and even the new logo balls add a touch of pride and identity to the club.

What really stands out is the value. This is a very affordable place to tee it up, yet it consistently overdelivers. Green fees and memberships are budget-friendly, making it accessible without sacrificing quality.

The maintenance team deserves serious credit—because for a course operating on a modest budget, the fairways are beautiful, and the greens are well-kept, smooth, and reliable.

The layout itself is approachable and enjoyable. It’s not overly challenging, which makes it perfect for a relaxed round, but there’s still enough character—with rolling terrain and subtle undulation—to keep things interesting. It’s the kind of course where you can score well, have fun, and not feel beat up walking off the 18th.

More than anything, it’s the atmosphere that makes this place special. The staff and regulars create a genuinely friendly environment—no pretension, no pressure—just a comfortable, easygoing golf experience that feels like home.

As Liberty Country Club heads toward its centennial celebration, it’s clear this isn’t just a course resting on its history—it’s a club building momentum. Affordable, welcoming, and steadily improving, it’s a hidden gem that proves great golf doesn’t have to come with a big price tag.
