Katelyn and Harrison decided to have their engagement photoshoot at Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Island. My location guide that I send to my wedding clients highlight this park because it never disappoints. The variety and space that you have to create beautiful photos along with the pure beauty of the area is a hit every time. Even though they had to drive up from Seattle, the joy that shone on Harrison’s face when he got to see Rosario Beach for the first time, made it all worth it for them.
We started the shoot before golden hour, so we had a bit of different lighting than a normal session, but I really enjoyed getting to play with the brighter light for the first half and then lean into the golden light for the last half. Their outfits were absolutely perfect for the location and the occasion. Neutral/light colored outfits for both their formal and casual outfits look so natural in the environment while still being able to stand out. My Styling Guide helps guide you with choosing colors, materials, and accessories so you can look and feel your best!
As we walked through the yellow and purple wildflowers, we had fun talking about Katelyn and Harrison’s hobbies (skiing for her, golf for him), Bachelorette/Bachelor parties, wedding planning, and Harrison’s fear of heights (he was a trooper next to the cliffs). We even saw an otter and a seal! The park was truly putting on a performance for these two and as much as they were taking it all in, they couldn’t stop appreciating the view of each other. They truly trusted the process and just let themselves enjoy themselves. Laughing, bear hugs, melting into each other, and Harrison giving Katelyn a purple wildflower (which is one of his favorite colors) made for some of my favorite photos ever.
I can’t wait to photograph their Shuksan Golf Club wedding later this year!
