πŸŒ²πŸŒ“ I wasn’t planning on shooting the moon tonight. In fact, I had a cancelled Milky Way trip due to overcast skies. I went out for sunset instead, and afterwards when I pulled into the driveway, I could see the setting moon near the rim behind home. I knew that if I went down the block a bit it would line up with this tree that I’ve known of for a long time and have captured with the moon before. It worked, here’s a photo of what that looked like. πŸŒ“πŸŒ²

πŸŒ•πŸ”οΈ We were lucky to get a surprise dusting of snow on the mountains last week, and I wanted to take advantage of the remaining powder on the peaks, so I set out to capture the moon with that in mind tonight. Between trying to predict what the clouds would do, and what composition I wanted depending on how that went, I ended up zig-zagging quite a bit. Parked in one place and started hiking, then changed my mind with what I wanted to to and so back to the car we go, then drive to a different place. Nope, this doesn’t seem right. Then after parking at a third spot I hiked back and forth trying to out-maneuver the clouds. Long story short, it was a beautiful evening to be out there. πŸ”οΈπŸŒ•

πŸͺΎπŸŒ• Many of the photos that I share have had hours of planning put into them. I use photography apps to figure out timing for my desired lighting and other elements, at times scouting out the location days, weeks, or even months in advance, and sometimes I even actually use math to calculate angles of elevation for accurate alignment. Miles-long hikes are normal. But then there are times I'm hiking back after one of those planned photos, and I'm almost to the car when I see a cool shot to get like this, so I pull my gear out again. Dinner can wait a little longer, these only take a few minutes. Such is life. I'll let you metaphor that one out on your own. Happy moon day! πŸŒ•πŸͺΎ
