"Taking Flight"

There is something exhilarating about seeing an eagle flying directly towards you. I spotted this beautiful bird when out for a drive and watched patiently as it sat in the tree with the other birds, searching for it's next meal. Luckily, I was too big for a quick snack and it diverted its flight path. :)

I pulled up this photo from last November. It was a crystal clear and freezing cold day at Metcalf Wildlife Refuge. The water was in the beginning stages of forming ice as the cattails are reflecting in the marsh.

"Smart Wool"

If you are being kept warm by wool in the winter, thank sheep for one!

Did you know?

Sheep have rectangular pupils that give them amazing peripheral vision – it’s estimated their field of vision is between 270 and 320 degrees.

Sheep need at least six weeks to grow enough wool to keep them warm in the winter.

When Woodrow Wilson was President, the First Lady had sheep graze on the White House lawn to keep it neat and well trimmed.

Sheep are very gentle animals and are easily frightened.
Each sheep is individual and unique and can distinguish between all other sheep. They can recognize fellow flock mates even after years of separation.

"Wondrous Winter Walk"

Today was a quiet day. On a drive this afternoon, I caught these two beings out of the corner of my eye and had to stop to take in the beauty and rhythm of their stride, as the sun warmed their coats.

"Motley Crew"

These were two of a flock of sheep somewhere in Stevensville and this is a poem I found on the internet.

Messy Hair

Oh, my messy hair

Entangled and glared in the air,

But free with no care

They are labyrinthine,

Having a mystery behind

Entangled with one another

Flawlessly,

coupled inside out with stormy

Shades, and

Wearing scars by rain, shine by the sun,

Carrying the masses,

Of sorrow and happiness

And crowned with great pride

Sometimes tied in a bun,

Sometimes waving in the air

Doesn’t matter!

Yeah, always messy and

Singing through the air

Oh, my messy hair…..
