If you’ve seen Love Actually, you know the scene. The pop-up performance of “All You Need is Love” at the end of Peter and Juliet’s wedding.

We were lucky to see a real-life version of it at Hannah and David’s Kansas City wedding this past autumn – brought it to perfect life at the request and planning of Hannah’s folks and and it was *the best.*

Truth be told it was all the best. The most enjoyable folks, crew, planning process, and wedding weekend. I had my biggest team yet for this one–four photographers–and I’m proud of the work we did.

“Unconventional everything!”

Our first meeting produced this quote, I was spellbound, and off we went.

When everything was said and done—Sonia and Devon would tell you they ended up shifting slightly toward tradition—it was truly a uniquely unconventional, true-to-them party for their people. There was a ball pit, their dads slang late-night burgers, they rode their usual street car route after the small ceremony on top of their apartment, and they eventually rode off in a pedicab.

It was all *great.* A wonderful celebration brought to fullest life by .events.

I think I made eight posts to Instagram last year.

And depending on how you choose to look at things on the whole, that’s either exceptionally bad or exceptionally good. I think it’s more the latter than the former, for better or worse, but in any event I made a lot of work of which I’m really proud.

So — now that the work has settled a bit, I want to make more of a concerted effort to share it. Weddings, some family portraits, all of it.

And I think this is a good starting point — from the top, working backwards.

In thirty or forty years Morgan and Aaron will have fond memories of making vows and signing a paper on a Monday evening in their first home. They’ll remember how they’d just moved in… how they’d started making the place their own… but also how so much great character had been left by the original owners of several decades. The wallpaper… the furniture… the art over the fireplace… the chair lift… all part of the story. How Kit and Kiwi were both there—in real life and also by way of the embroidery on Morgan’s dress. How they’d just raised up the dining room chandelier together so no one would bump their head into it. How they’d switched the couch around so folks could sit on it and watch them, and then enjoy barbecue and conversation on it later. How Morgan’s sister sprayed hose water on the outside of the window to add some character during their vows.

All part of the story — just like it was.
