Happy Mother’s Day to a new mama 💖

This March maternity session in Appleton was just some weeks before the due date, and in between sweet moments and kitty cuddles we joked about L + J having a 4/20 baby.

Well, you can guess what happened on April 20th 🤭 .lauren, I am so honored to have been a part of multiple special moments, and it’s even more special to see you and in a home that is so YOU, surrounded by love.

I hope your day is kind and lovely, whether you’re a mom or have a mom or it’s just another day.

This is why we need artists and creatives - I could not resist yapping about it.

And a very happy 4/20 to you, too 🔥🥵

This session has been sitting on the hard drive for much too long, and what better day to feature than this one?

We can call this a retro bo***ir session, but “bo***ir” never feels right to me. Informally, I usually call them self love sessions - after all, that’s what this should be about. Celebrating you, your body that does so much for you, and giving yourself something special to look back on someday (as Moira Rose would definitely encourage).

As always, documented on a mix of digital and film photography.

All this sunshine has me ready for seats on the patio, walking around our favorite neighborhoods, and drinking a lot of iced coffee. This St. Paul engagement session from last year makes me feel the same way!

This neighborhood is our own little brownstone corner of the Twin Cities, which is also what drew Lily & Max to this spot for their spring engagement photos. We wanted this to feel like a date and took our time strolling up and down the lanes of brick apartment buildings under the beautiful, big trees.

is a bustling spot that is almost always busy (as they should be!), so it was an unexpected delight that we were able to snag a patio table right out front.

Here’s to hoping for more sunny days, obsessively in love couples, and even more iced coffee ✨

Meet Lady Luck ❤️‍🔥

It’s been so fun working with more hair stylists and salon owners lately - everyone has their own vibe, their own values, their own take on the industry and their art.

Allie and I planned this branding session to represent who she is in and outside of her business. We started at one of her favorite local dives (a great way to get comfortable!), and then moved to her salon studio.

Lady Luck is a gorgeous space with exposed brick, old hardwood floors, and beautiful windows to let in the sunset. Add Allie’s tattoo-inspired art, collection of plants, and pretty damn cool decor pieces and the space becomes a personal reflection of who Allie is and what she loves. Her studio is warm and welcoming, while also feeling irrefutably bad ass.

If you’re an elder emo, pop punk kinda person in the Milwaukee area, definitely check out !

A summer evening well spent.

This is one small part of a bigger session from last year, inspired by Wes Anderson and out of place things. Instead of bringing their vintage boat to water, we placed it in an overgrown patch of grass. We wanted this to feel a little silly and ungrounded, while still feeling the emotions and love that are real and grounded in reality.

Looking forward to warmer evenings, late sunsets, and hunting for wildflowers in the middle of nowhere.

There is something special about art, about creating, that offers us peace sometimes - maybe a small moment while you drink your morning coffee out of a mug that is handmade by a kind soul like , or maybe it’s when you step into a local art gallery and discover something new you love. Maybe it’s the afternoon you decide to try out a new hobby with air dry clay and YouTube tutorials, or the night you go out to a concert with some friends.

When the world is messy and frustrating and overwhelming (which it always seems to be), it’s vital to find your little bit of peace.

These are some moments from an at-home session with Mia last summer. Her pottery and the way she brings textiles into ceramics is so lovely, and seeing some of her process felt very special.

Support your local artists - we need their light in our world.

From the archive: a speakeasy engagement session 💍🥂

With these two tying the knot this year, I’ve been looking back at their engagement session from awhile back. This speakeasy in Minneapolis is full of surprises, and it was fun to play around with moving walls, cozy phone booths, and temporary tattoos.

Take this as your sign to get out and support your local bars and restaurants this weekend (and especially our immigrant-owned spots!).

Still here, still doing things, just navigating how to make things make sense in this mess of a world.

As a reminder, I believe that:
- Immigrants make America great
- Black Lives Matter
- LGBTQIA+ humans are always welcomed here
- Fascism and democracy cannot coexist
- Social programs and community are essential
- and also other things, but these are the most important right now.

If you believe those things too and want to make some art or memories, then let’s get friendly 🫶

These photos are from a warm day last week, with 🩵
