With things being what they are in the US right now, I think this is a good time to talk about something that could actually be helpful.
THE IFAK, Or Individual First Aid Kit.
The concept is pretty simple, if we’re out and about and I get shot, stabbed, or otherwise spring a leak, you, my medically trained friend, can pull this kit off my belt or outta my bag and get to work patching me up. Or I can help you if you’re hurt and don’t have your own IFAK, b/c sharing is caring.
The kit pictured is designed to treat gunshot and knife wounds. It includes things like a CAT Tourniquet, chest seal dressings, and wound packing gauze, just to name a few things.
Knowing some basic bleeding control skills is really helpful and is definitely something that is good for more people to know since it can be life or death in a crisis.
This pouch can fit on my belt as you can see pictured but like I mentioned, it’s compact enough to fit in my messenger bag that I carry daily. So it’s not a hassle to have it on me just in case.
I also need to stress that good training is super important. I highly recommend taking a stop the bleed course, I know I intend to myself, soon as puts on another one. Medical skills are perishable skills and you don’t want to be fumbling when people are bleeding.
I got my IFAK from but You can find all the supply’s you need or get a ready made kit to match your needs/skill level at as well.
Last note, Don’t buy cheap knockoff Tourniquets off Amazon!!! They will fail and you don’t want to risk your life or someone else’s because you didn’t invest in a real one. Medical supplies are the last place you want to cut corners.
Have fun, stay safe out there.
