My work with Sabrina for Autonomy. Pink and blue carry a lot of connotations — often, it’s one of the first ways society reinforces a gender binary onto children. The pink, purple, and blue bisexual flag takes that connotation and flips it into a message of love beyond the one-way system.

The next set in Autonomy, featuring Ella. I loved Ella's movement and the way I was able to capture it on camera. In some of the shots, she has slowed down while her hands and hair are still moving, and I think it fits with the bright colors and personality she brought to the shoot.

Excited to share the second of my portrait series of Jem! Jem gave me a prompt that instantly made me think — they said "I want to be photographed like a cis man." For a project on LGBTQ identity, of course I was excited to explore what this might look like. Looking through some shoots Jem brought, I really got to see what that side of someone else's gender looked like to them. This is part of why I loved this project — I got to see such interesting sides of people's identities and how they portray themselves!

Very excited to share the first shoot of my LGBTQ portrait project, Autonomy! This project is about letting the subjects explore how they would like to be portrayed by choosing the lighting, framing, and making editing choices along with the final photos. I wanted this to run against the way LGBTQ people see themselves so often in media: misrepresented and without their input. My first subject, Annie, helped me explore studio portrait photography — something totally new to me at the time as a photojournalist who is most often working on the street in candid moments.
