Afya Sanaa
(May 2021 • St. Paul, MN)

Afya Sanaa is a healing center and community space where Minnesotans who identify as Black, African, African American, ADOS (African Descendant of Slavery) can find the solace, safety and fellowship to start their journey to healing. All programs and services are free to members and there is no cost for membership. Members are asked to be present, and be respectful, treat the space and others with love and care, and to lend a helping hand when needed. [Afya Sanaa Website]

MAIN SPACES INCLUDE:

•COMMON SPACE•
A relaxing lounge space for things like collaborating work or individual studies. You'll see art featured throughout the Healing Space and this area features a large mural with the focus being beautifully illustrated wings. One wing's dedicated to Elder Ancestors, watching over from Africa and the other to recently lost Ancestors. In addition, cycling installations from African American business owners are featured in the Healing Boutique.

•MASSAGE + MEDITATION•
A space where members can relax their bodies and minds. Currently, four Black and Indigenous community members specialize in different types of massages - Stone, Reiki, Deep Tissue + Crystal Massage.

•PODCAST + AUDIO•
A dedicated space for members to brainstorm, share and record ideas. Audio equipment is available for use and aspiring artists of all kinds are encouraged to reserve this room to take their ideas to the next step.

•MEDIA•
A variety of different workshops and trainings for activities like photography, coding and writing will be available. This space is currently dedicated to the youth - encouraging them to explore careers in a safe space. (Generational classes will be offered at a later date)

•KITCHEN•
Store your own food and beverages here or enjoy complimentary items. There is also diaper pantry available for parents. Eventually the goal is to have a local CO-OP help donate goods. If you know of a CO-OP looking to donate healthy snacks to Afya Sanaa, please contact them with any leads!

•YOGA + DANCE STUDIO•
A large open studio for fitness classes, such as yoga or dance, is located on the 2nd floor of the Healing Center. Yoga mats and tap shoes are even available for members to use.

Fashion Week MN - Runway

Even though I was behind-the-scenes, I wanted to stay and see a few of the designers and models on the runway. My fave part? They had such an amazing group of models!! A variety of heights, shapes, sizes, shades of skin, walking styles, genders and AGES ❤ It really made for an exciting show!

Fashion Week MN - Accessories

I love supporting Local - especially if it's Woman Owned... bonus if it's handmade! There were so many creative designers at Fashion Week MN. I was able to speak with a number of them and I'm so glad I had that opportunity. Hearing about their materials, making processes and businesses - GOALS.

If you look through the photos you may recognize Natalie Morrow - Founder of Black Fashion Week MN shopping for new accessories. SUCH an honor to be there with her and briefly speak to her.

May has been the busiest and most intense month in my photography world! I will be sharing Moments from May frequently from my adventures! For the most part, I've been casually managing my photography through FB, however, now I'll be working on updating my FB and IG to really show my recent work. Last update - I'm looking forward to share some exciting news soon, so stay tuned!!!

Fashion Week MN was here in early May and thefittingroommpls put on an awesome upbeat show. I had the opportunity to capture behind-the-scene shots at their show - which I'm so grateful for! I've never been to anything like that before and I hope it wasn't the last.
