This park is amazing. This volcano is thousands of years old and considered extinct. But there is still hot magma below as evidenced by the boiling mud pots in this album. These photos were taken at various elevations between 7000 and 8500 feet above sea level.

The Sutter Buttes, formerly known as the Marysville Buttes, are a small circular complex of eroded volcanic lava domes which rise as buttes above the flat plains of the Central Valley of California in the United States.

The summit of South Butte, at 2122+ feet (647+ m), is the highest point in Sutter Buttes and the highest point in Sutter County, California.[1] The Buttes are located just outside of Yuba City, California in the Sacramento Valley, the northern part of the Central Valley. They are named for John Sutter, who received a large land grant from the Mexican government. The Sutter Buttes are sometimes referred to as the world's smallest mountain range

Blacksands Beach, Shelter Cove, Ca. This beach is located in the second most geological active area on Earth. Three tectonic plates merge here to form The Mendocino Triple Junction, and thrust up the King Range moutains here about 13 inches ever year. Ocean, wind and driving winter rains midgate the rise in elevation by wearing down the moutains by erosion taking the sands and soil back to the sea.

This 160 acre dune unit is the most pristine remaining dune system in the Pacific Northwest. The name came from a place name of the ancestral Wiyot tribe.

The newly opened North Ma-le'ls entrance road is open to vehicles Friday through Monday

Tuesday through Thursday the area is accessible by walking or biking from the Ma-le'l South Trailhead parking area.
