We lost the old barn that I used to photograph alongside this tree, and it won't be long before the tree is surrounded by new homes. But for now, it still stands tall, and it's pretty majestic.

Yesterday was one of those days when I just knew the sky was going to offer up something worth shooting. I just needed to get there.

What I didn't expect was a rainbow, which you can clearly see in the reel I posted last night. I was actually talking about how great it is that the Brewers are going to the World Series when, out of nowhere, a super bright rainbow appeared as I was getting close to one of my favorite spots to shoot.

But here's the thing. This isn't that rainbow.

That one had already disappeared by the time I got there. This one actually appeared very briefly just as I was getting ready to leave. I was lucky to get a shot of it at all, let alone this one.

Sometimes it's just about being in the right place at the right time. And sometimes, it's about sticking around just a little longer.

Just a little moody out there tonight, but fall often feels that way.

Tonight, I tried something a little different, combining seven shots to create this vertical panorama using my 70mm lens. This allowed me to capture both the water and the church without having the church look so tiny in the background.

I think I like how it turned out!

Another one from the vault. This one gives off some castle vibes.

I did my duty and gave blood from about 5:15 to 7:30 this morning. If you live in Wisconsin and have been outside since our heavy rains then you know what I'm talking about. There was a multitude of different light opportunities this morning, including some great fog and sun but as many who follow my page know, I absolutely love the shots of Holy Hill well before sunrise. This was shot at about 5:36 am. The only thing I could see through the view finder was the illuminated church. Thirty seconds of exposure helped to bring the rest of the scene alive.

I just love this spot and may need to go back!

The leaves are not ready yet so I turned to a familiar shot this morning. While I have shot this many times, I love how its always different. This time the fog gave it a unique look. I am still waiting for an opportunity for a couple of good fall shots before I release the images for this year's calendar. Once it is ready to go, it will be available for purchase on my website. Until then I'll keep shooting.

The most common question I get every year is, “When will the leaves be ready?” The best I can do is show you exactly what I’m seeing out there right now. So, here you go!
To answer the question, yes, definitely worth checking out this weekend! Next weekend might be even better as the oaks start to turn, but it’s important to remember that not all the trees change color at once. Some are already dropping leaves while others are just getting started. That perfect moment when every tree is at peak color at the same time? Well, that pretty much only happens in the world of Photoshop and AI. 😉

We’re getting closer to peak fall color around here! Many of the maples have already popped, with some even dropping their leaves a little early. Maples are typically among the first to show their colors, along with sumac and some of the birches. The oaks tend to hold out longer, and most haven't shown much color yet, although I've started noticing a few patches of red and bronze.

This weekend might not be bad for getting out and enjoying some fall color, but my guess is that next week will be even better. A lot will depend on the weather, especially the wind and rain, and whether those early-changing maples can hang on long enough for the oaks to catch up.

It's always a bit of a guessing game this time of year, but we're getting close!
