Man Called 911 to Say He Would Kill Himself. Then Police Found Mother, Daughter Slain in Apparent Murder-Suicide
Three people, including two family members, are dead in what Texas authorities describe as a murder-suicide.
The trio were found deceased inside a residence in Hutto, Texas on Thursday, Feb. 27, after police responded to a call about a man who claimed he had killed two people, the Hutto Police Department said in a statement.
The victims were not named in the statement but they have been identified by police as Deffenia Lynch, 58, and Iosha Shaw, 41, according to FOX 7 Austin, the Austin American-Statesman and KVUE.
Kerry Carter, 60, was identified as the man who called police before turning the gun on himself.
Carter reportedly called police to say he had killed two people and was going to take his own life, per Hutto authorities.
When responding officers arrived at the residence and tried to communicate with Carter, they heard a gunshot inside the house, the statement said.
Police discovered all three deceased after entering the house.
The garage in the residence was closed and “filled with smoke” and officers found accelerants in the car and the house, Hutto police said in their statement.
While authorities did not mention how the three knew each other, some took to social media to say Shaw was Lynch’s daughter.
“Please keep my Shaw family in your thoughts and prayers we lost 2 sweet souls on yesterday; a mother Daphney Lynch & her daughter Iosha Shaw,” wrote Aubri Taylor.
"R.I.P to my cousin Iosha Shaw and her mother Daphney Lynch," wrote Nakirah Tameka.
A motive behind the killings has not been announced.
