A couple of film favorites from the session I shared earlier.

This was the first time I really trusted myself to use my film camera more throughout a family session. I'm still getting comfortable with manual mode and metering, and I'm definitely nowhere near an expert—but that's okay.

One of the things I love most about photography is that there's always something new to learn. Film has challenged me in all the best ways, teaching me to slow down, trust my instincts, and embrace a little uncertainty.

I'm also incredibly grateful for the photographers who have generously answered questions, shared their knowledge, and encouraged me along the way. Learning feels a lot less intimidating when you have people willing to help you grow.

A few imperfect frames, a lot of learning, and some favorites that continue to make it all worth it.

I was hoping my film scans would be back before I shared this session, but they'll have to wait. For now, enjoy this little backyard documentary session—a reminder of the simple, ordinary moments that make childhood feel so magical.

The family documentary sessions are starting to roll in, and I couldn't be more excited. These sessions truly speak to me.

I've been trying to come up with the simplest way to explain what a documentary session is, and the most straightforward description I've landed on is this: documentary sessions are family-led, not photographer-led.

I show up with my camera in hand while you spend time with your favorite people. Have fun. Do what you'd normally do together as a family—go fishing, tend the garden, ride bikes, swim, play board games, bake cookies, build forts... don't overthink it.

One of my favorite parts is that I actually get to chat with you and your family more because I'm not spending the entire session posing everyone and asking for smiles at the camera. I also highly recommend staying at home. There's something so relaxing about being in your own space, surrounded by the things and routines that make your family yours.

I was especially excited to work with this family again. When I walked into their home and saw photos from our previous session hanging on the walls, I just about melted into a puddle.

This session was photographed digitally, but I couldn't resist snapping a couple of photos on film as well. What I didn't anticipate was just how overpowering the white peonies would be in the double exposures.

(Peep the last slide)

Some might call it art.

Others might call it a major oops. 🫣😂

Maybe I've accidentally discovered a new way to hide children's faces on social media? 🤷‍♀️

Happy Mother’s Day weekend to the moms in the middle of the chaos, the noise, the mess, and the beautiful little moments in between. To the mothers rocking babies, raising grown children, loving their fur babies, and to the moms carrying the ache of loss or longing today.

Thinking of all kinds of mothers today and the love they carry so deeply.

Hey all! As mentioned, this summer I’m leaning into more model calls and exploring a few passion projects.

I’ve had a handful of inquiries for family sessions in the yard or on the front porch. These model sessions are still available and will extend into the fall, so if you’ve been thinking about booking one for your family, feel free to reach out and we can get something on the calendar.

The second model call is for parents who want to capture their kids in their most natural element. These sessions will be playful and a bit experimental, centered around the beauty of childhood and movement.

All sessions will be relaxed, with light guidance to help elevate the artistic feel. I’ll be incorporating a mix of film and digital, in both color and black & white. Location is flexible—we can collaborate on a setting and simple activities that keep things fun and authentic for your kids.

If you’re interested in either session, I’d love to connect and share more details or find a date that works for you.

A huge thank you to and for collaborating with me on such a beautiful day. Our Gather + Bloom motherhood event already has the wheels turning for something special this fall.

Thank you to for the incredible flower bouquet bar—the arrangements were absolutely stunning and added such a thoughtful touch to the day.

And thank you to for coming out. Your little ones are beyond adorable. If you haven’t checked out her work yet, definitely hop over to her profile—it’s so beautiful. It’s always refreshing to connect with other photographers in the area and talk shop. One of the topics that came up was community over competition, which really stuck with me. I’ll be sharing more thoughts on that later today over on my Substack, if you feel like following along. The link can be found in my bio.

Reflecting on the photographer’s retreat last Sunday, I’m reminded how important it is to step back and reconnect with what really drives you. To ask yourself—am I moving toward my goals, or is it time to shift?

Maybe you’re at a crossroads and need a new direction. Maybe you’re in a good place and ready to grow into something more. Either way, you’re not alone in it. There are so many photographers in that same space—questioning, evolving, stretching, or even stepping away.

That’s what I love about retreats. They remind me we’re not doing this on a tiny island—we’re surrounded by people who understand, who support, and who are walking their own path right alongside us.

A big thank you to the photographers who joined (my favorite co-host and friend) and me for a time of reflection. I’m so grateful to and for sharing your knowledge and supporting us. And thank you to the families who showed up and trusted us during the styled session—it truly meant so much.

Thank you for providing such a beautiful space to host this year's retreat.

There’s been a lot of conversation lately among photographers about whether or not to share children’s faces on our feeds. It’s something I’ve spent time thinking through, and I’ve come to a place where I feel clear on where I stand.

I’d genuinely love to hear your perspective, too—what are your thoughts? Share in the comments.
