It’s that time of year! All the chipmunks are packing on the weight before winter! This little guy was absolutely demolishing these acorns!

This was taken under an oak tree in a public park, no baiting or feeding from humans occurred. This is completely natural behavior and food for chipmunks!

Be sure to leave a like and follow in case I find a few more chunky ones this year!

Cooper's Hawk looking for dinner! These hawks stand about 15-20 inches tall and mostly hunt small birds, reptiles, and mammals. And this one was no exception!

This photo was taken near birds feeders at a local nature center. The hawk was waiting for sparrows and warblers to visit the feeder and would ambush any that got close. After a few failed attempts, it flew off to find other prey.

I typically don’t hang around feeders since it takes away the sport of wildlife photography for me. This was obviously an exception given how perfectly placed this hawk was. I will always disclose if a photo was taken using feeders or other methods of attracting wildlife!

Cooper’s Hawks are majestic birds always a treat to find. Hoping I can get a few more in the fall foliage this year!

The Eastern Veil Nebula (NGC 6992) is a massive supernova remnant. This is the remains of a star that went supernova approximately 5,000-10,000 years ago. The system is located about 2,500 light years away. The entire complex has a diameter of over 110 light years which shows just how fast and far the shockwave has traveled.

This image uses a special filter to uncover the faint wisps of the ancient shockwave. All the red in this image is glowing hydrogen gas, and all the blue is oxygen gas. There are other elements present in the supernova but the filter blocks their light. I am so proud of this image and am excited to continue shooting this complex over the years.

Be sure to follow along for more exciting space images!

A very curious Barred Owlet exploring their tree! As owlets get closer to flying, they begin to climb out of their nests and build their strength. It’s not uncommon to for them to land on the ground and climb back up the tree. This owlet has a lot of energy to burn and I’m sure they’re going to be very successful once they start hunting!

This photo was taken in April and the Owlets (yes plural, next post will have both👀) have already left the nest! They are still cared for by their parents but will not return to the nest as they’re nearly adult sized. I have not seen them around the area so it seems the family has moved on but the parents may return next year!

This was amazing getting to see these babies begin to take their first steps into the real world! Wishing them a long and happy life!

A massive lightning strike over the Allen Bradley Clocktower in Milwaukee! Thunderstorm season is in full swing and I'm so excited to see what else I'm able to shoot this summer!

For anyone curious, I believe the weird rotoscoping effect on some of the main bolt is caused by the cameras long exposure. Lightning strikes pulse multiple times in quick succession. When they do this they can slightly shift position. That's the current guess atm!

Red Breasted Merganser at Wehr Nature Center! Made some great poses in the setting sun. You can see their serrated bill that helps them catch fish in this shot. Very happy I went out today!
