For 2 years I’ve tried to get a picture of a male brown-headed cowbird, and for 2 years I’ve always failed. Id army crawl 50 feet just for them to fly away just before I got them in my viewfinder. Every. Single. Time. But last Saturday, during the Green Birding Challenge hosted by the I finally got my chance. I thought I’d never get one, but all I needed was a little patience. Which reminds me of a favorite quite to keep in mind if it seems like you’ll never cross a bird off your list—“Never give up, never surrender!”

Well, I said I was gonna post a non-bird picture next, but I can’t NOT post this. The migratory birds are finally hitting Milwaukee so me and had to try and take advantage of it. So I hope you enjoy this northern parula as much as I did (Ok, Im like, 93% sure thats what it is. If Im wrong please let me know😂) Also, Im probably going to be doing a BTS/Meet the photographer sort of post soon, so post in the comments anything you’d like to know!

My favorite local spring/summer visitor, the green heron, has returned, and seeing them made me so incredibly happy. I got stuck in a rut of not going out and not wanting to post, always worries about how well posts do and all that. But that’s not why I do this, even though I forget that sometimes. I have a couple cool things happening that I can’t wait to share, but will be back to more local wildlife in the meantime! My next post is NOT going to be bird related 😱😱 What do you think it will be??

I cant get enough of these gorgeous, feathered friends. Every time I don’t feel like leaving the apartment, I ask myself if I’m going to regret not going. I’ve been looking for owls for so long, and finally found some, and have been seeing them in a consistent basis. I sat for 2.5 hours watching this guy, and I think I had a smile plastered on my face for every second of it. I finally dipped my toes into taking video, so I’ll have some cool little clips to show soon.
