My first Shorties of the season!

I hope this reaches some of my . I know I’ve been terrible at keeping up with this page lately. When I first started, Facebook made sharing so easy—but now it’s a lot more complicated, so I’ve ended up using my personal page much more. I post my photos in groups to reach more people, and it takes a lot of time to get back to all of you—please know how much I appreciate the support!

I tried to keep my personal page separate, but so many groups no longer allow posting from photography pages like mine, so now most of my sharing happens from my personal account. The European Goldfinch may be an introduced species in Wisconsin — traced back to a pet importer in the Chicago area who released them — but they’ve made themselves at home, nesting here since at least 2006 and now reported in over 30 counties. I always love spotting them in fall, especially perched on burdock.

I couldn’t have asked for a better bird to top off the scene — an Eastern Bluebird perched perfectly against the vibrant fall colors.

The male Kestrel took off from his driftwood perch and landed on the bird box — moments later, the female joined him! I think this is the first time I’ve ever captured both sexes together in one shot. You can really see the difference: the male has blue-gray wings with black spots along the breast and wings, while the female is overall has more rich brown — Both equally beautiful in their own way.
