Some sessions just have everything — golden hour, spring blooms, a dramatic bridge, and two people completely crazy about each other. 🌸
I made the trip down to New York City this past weekend to photograph Sam and Robbie in Astoria Park, and wow — did we get it all. From daffodil fields to the Hell Gate Bridge at sunset, every frame felt like a movie still.
Cannot wait for their wedding day! 🤍

Love this comparison 👇

Same couple.
Same sunset.
Two completely different stories.

The top image uses intentional off-camera studio lighting on location.
The bottom image is natural light only.

Both are beautiful. Both are valid.
But they create very different feelings.

✨ In the first image, adding artificial light allows me to:
• Control skin tones and detail
• Separate my subjects from the background
• Balance the dramatic sky with clean, flattering light
• Preserve color and depth in both the couple and the sunset

🌅 In the second image, we lean into silhouette.
It’s moody. Romantic. Graphic.
But detail is sacrificed by design.

Here’s why this matters when choosing a photographer:

Sunsets fade fast.
Clouds roll in.
Venues don’t always face the right direction.
And sometimes the most epic skies are behind your subjects.

If a photographer only relies on natural light, they’re limited by whatever the sun decides to do.

When a photographer understands studio lighting on location, they aren’t dependent on perfect conditions. They can:
✔ Create dimension
✔ Shape light intentionally
✔ Adapt to changing weather
✔ Deliver consistency no matter the venue

Lighting knowledge isn’t about using more gear.
It’s about having more control.

Anyone can chase good light.
