Comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon

I finally got some time to finish processing this beautiful visitor! This was taken from North of SF over the coastal cliffs of Point Reyes. Having an orbital period of 1346 years, this was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this marvel. Shot in October 3 days before it reached the closest point to Earth in its orbit.

Moonlit Ubehebe - Death Valley

I first visited Ubehebe in Sep 2021. In an unfortunate incident I lost all my photos from that trip. Fortunately I had edited most of them. But ever since I wanted to make another trip and make another photo memory here. Took almost 4 years to reshoot this landscape panorama. While I was photographing the crater, the Moon was setting on my left. It lit the inner crater face and the rim on my left. It was a wonderful sight!

The New Wave

Synchronous to “The Wave” in North Coyote Buttes which requires a permit, I along with my friends visited this new wave structure. Its easy to access and has a shorter hike compared to the long 6 mile round trip of the bigger wave. Its a beautiful location with nice wave like patterns looking out to the rock formations. I got only one evening here and I wish I had more time to get some good comps. This was a hasty one.

Little H**e crater - Death Valley

Created by Maar Volcanoes, little H**e and Ubehebe craters are remains of ancient volcanic activity. Once this area was covered with water body and the magma rising from the depths hit the water instantly converting it into steam and causing an explosion. This resulted in formation of these two craters. Area around the craters in covered in cinders (black ash) and is very evident as soon as you reach the area.

Chocolate Balls and Starry Swirls

While I wait for a chance to go out and officially start my Milky way photography season here is one from my last year’s visit to AZ. These painted stones (chocolate truffles) made for an amazing foreground. The whole area around these stones is surrounded by tufas while these lie here forming an alien landscape. Each was at least my height (I want to say 6 ft but I am a little short 😕). Truly astonishing landscape.

Natural Bridges trail - Death Valley NP

Natural bridges is a very beautiful trail in DVNP. The initial section is a steep gravelly climb working out your calf muscles. Once you cross that initial hurdle it leads you inside a towering canyon. The first attraction is this bridge like structure. At night time it feels eerilyly scary especially when your own footsteps echo loudly in the corridor. I was always confused with that to photograph against this composition. When I visited the last time, the sky was hazy and part of the Northern Milky way visible along with Mars and Jupiter. Because of the haze the diffused stars were looking beautiful. I just took the shot as I wanted to check this place off of my DV list.

Bowling Balls

One of the ‘hidden’ treasures of the Californian coast is this natural bowling alley. It is underwater during high tides and shows up only during very low tides. This part of the beach is very unique as these is more rock and less sand. There is also a patterned flat strip of land which symbolizes a bowling lane. I would someday want to find the ‘bowling pins’ if they exist nearby and knock some with these giant rocks 😁.
If you zoom in on the nearest rock, you can see miniature seashells perched on it.

Cracking Gold

On my recent trip to the Death Valley, as I was scouting locations for photographing some night sky, I came across these mud cracks. Unlike the mud cracks that you find in late summer after being baked in 100+ F degrees heat, these winter mud cracks were very brittle, half baked and soft. As I was trying to find compositions around these, I was facing away the majestic sunset happening behind me. Only when I looked up to see pinks on the Eastern horizon was when I turned around to see the sky fired up and it bathed the area in golden orange light.

Dragon paw - Bisti, New Mexico, USA

What an evening that was! When we started walking in to explore this area, it was completely overcast to the point that midway through the hike it started to snow lightly. We even thought to call the hike off and return back but we kept going. An hour before sunset the horizon opened up and clouds started to disperse. We were hopeful then that the sunset would be decent. But what happened at sunset left us breathless, not jjst because of the burn that occurred in the sky but also because we wete running around trying to capture compositions! It was such a brilliant glow that the after color lasted for half an hour after sundown!

Golden grain fo Salt

On my last trip to the SW we ended up in my favorite place - Death Valley. And as usual it did not disappoint. One of the craziest sunsets that I have ever seen. The entire salt flats was washed in gold! I was standing under the blazing sky. The sunset was not just in front of us but also above us. I just kept saying ‘wow’ all the time.
