🚂 All Aboard for Railfest 2026 at Steamtown National Historic Site! Please Share This Post 📫
❤️ Get ready for the ultimate Labor Day weekend celebration of railroading history, power, and community! This year is extra special as we celebrate Steamtown’s 40th anniversary as a national park site, alongside massive milestones including 200 years of American railroading and America's 250th!
The event's feature star engine under steam will be the magnificent Baldwin No. 26 (" #26 in '26!"), alongside incredible visiting equipment, behind-the-scenes shop tours, live music, and family fun.

Dates: Friday, September 4 – Sunday, September 6, 2026
Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily
Admission: FREE general admission and parking (fees apply for select train rides and specific after-hours experiences).
Make It a Double Feature This Labor Day Weekend!
Both Railfest (September 4–6) and downtown Scranton's legendary La Festa Italiana at Courthouse Square (running September 4–7) are happening at the exact same time! You should definitely attend both to make the most of the holiday weekend. Best of all, a free shuttle will be running directly between Railfest and La Festa Italiana, making it seamless to jump between historic steam trains and incredible Italian food, culture, and live music!
🚆 Daily Highlights Include:
❤️ Opening Ceremony: Friday at 10:30 AM featuring the University of Scranton ROTC Color Guard, Black Diamonds Pipe Band, and the inaugural roll-out of engine No. 26.
✔️ Interactive Tours & Demos: Big Boy #4012 cab tours, live locomotive shop machine demonstrations, track work demos, and pump handcar rides.
✔️ Train Rides & Excursions: Short yard rides, caboose hops, and train rides running throughout the weekend.
✔️ Special Attractions: The first-ever "Life on the Railroad" Costume Contest, vintage military vehicle displays, model railroad layouts by the Anthracite Hi-Railers, and the Railway Post Office pop-up exhibit.

The Star of the Show: The 1929-built Baldwin No. 26 switcher will be actively hauling loads around the yard.
