It’s hard to believe how much time has already passed since the 4014 adventure. I’ve cataloged the photos on my computer, but the Lightroom organization is another story. After weeks of editing, exporting, re-editing and working through thousands of images, I’ve somehow managed to create files just about everywhere. 😂 There’s still plenty of cleanup left to do. But with an anticipated weekend at Steamtown for Railfest coming up, it’s time to shift gears finish clearing the camera cards, charge the batteries and start with a fresh slate.

I’m especially excited to say I’ll be taking part in one of the Iron Horse Society limited After Dark at the Park night photography sessions. Saturday night brings together steam, armor and railroad history, including Baldwin No. 26 and Big Boy No. 4012 under the lights. After spending so much of the summer Chasing Steam and Capturing History,I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the next chapter.

Come out to the Wheaton Festival of Fine Craft and support independent artists! Did a trial run setting up the booth with the new ProPanels, and I’m really happy with how much more polished and professional everything feels. With a few upcoming art shows on the calendar, I’m starting to measure out the walls and plan where some of my favorite images from the 4014 East Coast journey will be featured. I’m especially excited to see a few of these photographs printed large and displayed the way I originally envisioned them. Still a little fine-tuning to do, but the booth is starting to come together.

I’m definitely behind on the 4014 video. Part of that is because I’m a perfectionist, and every time I sit down to edit I find something else I want to tighten up, change, or try. At this point, I feel like I probably missed some of the hype surrounding 4014’s East Coast tour but I’m okay with that. This project has become less about getting something posted quickly and more about creating a video I’ll be proud to look back on. I learned a ton of new editing tricks putting it together, and I really haven’t seen another video that approaches the journey quite the same way. More than anything, I’m glad I took the time to capture it.

Now I’ve got another mountain of work waiting for me. My website desperately needs an update, galleries need to be organized, and I need to start getting everything together for the upcoming art shows. That’s probably the part I’m most excited about finally seeing some of these 4014 photographs printed large and making them a featured part of the booth. The chase may be over, but I’m definitely not finished telling the story yet.

Sometimes an impulsive purchase turns into a pretty memorable road trip. After finally pulling the trigger on a set of Pro Panels for my art booth, I headed north and spent the night camping at the Natural Bridge / Watertown KOA. I’m really excited to finally have these panels I know they’re going to completely change the presentation of the booth and give the work a much more professional home. A huge thank you to Glenn for working wiith me and helping make it happen.

The only regret from such a spontaneous trip was realizing just how close I was to the Adirondacks without having the time to really explore them. But maybe that’s better saved for another chapter and another photography trip. One unexpected bonus was discovering that the Tunkhannock Viaduct was only about a twenty-minute detour from our route. Naturally, I had to stop. Standing there again brought me right back to watching 4014 cross those arches earlier this summer. The anticipation, the heat, the sound, and especially the people I met along the way. It was strange returning when everything was quiet, but it gave me a chance to reflect on just how much that journey has already come to mean to me.

After months of chasing steam, putting miles on the road, and photographing 4014 across the East Coast, I wanted something that could commemorate the journey beyond the photographs. This shirt was created from that idea. I worked with a professional graphic designer who used my photographs from the trip as inspiration to create a completely custom design built around the story of the journey.

Chasing Steam — Capturing History.

From Letchworth and Nicholson to Jim Thorpe, Steamtown and beyond, this project became one of the most memorable photographic adventures I’ve taken. Now a little piece of that story can be worn. The shirts are now available through my Etsy shop and will also be available at upcoming Top to Bonham Photography art shows. Thank you to everyone who followed the journey, supported the photographs, and continues to support a small independent artist. It genuinely makes projects like this possible.
