What an honor it was to capture this years Growing Roots camp at Texas Botanical Gardens & Native American Interpretive Center, Inc. 😊
So many brilliant educators, and helpful hands. These lucky children got to learn, create, and explore in the beautiful gardens, museum, and theatre. Learning about different topics from Native American hand signs, to folklore, hunting, and more.
Thank you to all the volunteers who made this possible, it was a lovely turn out, you truly put your hearts into all of the activities and discussions, and I'm sure the children will take their new knowledge with them through life! 😊✨

Observation teaches us what noise often hides. When we slow down enough to watch, listen, and notice, we understand the world better. 🌻🌤️

Visit the gardens, or your local park soon. Sit and have a rest. Observe. You will be better for it. 🤍

What a beautiful ending to Busy Bee's 2026. 🐝🤍
Goldthwaite is so blessed to have Savannah and her wonderful team.
This years focus was on insects and arachnids, children ages 2-5 were brought into the world of bugs, where they got to explore, learn, and create.
Children and parents alike learned something new, and were entertained by the lovely educators and volunteers of this community.
I personally want to say thank you to everyone who helped make this possible, my little ones loved every bit, from the songs to the snacks.
I can't wait for next years Busy Bee's, and if you have older kids (1st-6th grade) you are invited to attend Growing Roots Summer kids camp at the Botanical Gardens! Please check their page for more info. ✨

Agarita (Mahonia trifoliolata) is putting on a beautiful show in the gardens, with bright red berries popping among silver-green, holly-like leaves. According to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center database, these tart berries have long been gathered and enjoyed by Indigenous peoples of Central Texas, often made into refreshing drinks, jellies, and preserves.

Agarita also provides an important food source for birds and other wildlife, while its dense, thorny branches offer valuable shelter and nesting protection for ground nesting birds like quail.

Come take a stroll through the gardens this week and enjoy the beauty of native plants in late spring.

Everything is better in a small town.

And Goldthwaite? It's a hidden gem. I'm sure of it.

Here at the Texas Botanical Gardens, nature, Native American culture, and community come together to create a rare experience we so often forget exists: unity.

When you step into the carefully tended gardens; the patches of wildflowers, the waterfalls, the quietly running streams, you realize this is the way life is meant to be lived. Outside. Breathing fresh air. Observing the world around you with a clear and open mind.

It's a place where people of all ages gather and build a sense of community so strong, it feels like home.

The elders, educators, and parents of this city come together to teach the youth through special events, this specific one I had the honor of photographing is called Busy Bee's. Savannah and her team create such a magical experience for the children here that even the adults found themselves swept in, and learning new things; myself included.

The Texas Botanical Gardens & Native American Interpretive Center is an inspiration to everyone who has the chance to visit. They are helping shape a future generation of explorers, thinkers, and nature loving individuals, and the world is better for it.

So, get outside. Breathe.

Clear and open your mind.

Don't limit yourself to screens and stale air.
