My first image for the year, actually my first image in a long while. So my first image of the year comes from walking into the bedroom and seeing how the light played on the shoe rack. This is a digital image, created on my Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 24-120mm lens. , &Light, , , , , ,

Three images from Stevens Dam on Lake Zoar here in Connecticut. Taken on my Mamiya C330 with 55mm lens on Fomapan 100 film around 4pm. The image of the dam was made with a #25 red filter at 60th of Second at f5.6, the stair steps with a #15 orange filter at 60th at F8, and finally the post again the #15 orange this time at 60th f5.6. A thank you to Milford Photo for developing the negatives. , , , , , , , &White,

So 50 years ago, in 1975 the year I turned 15, I had work the month of July detasseling corn for Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed Co. I was paid a whole $2 and hour and worked Monday through Saturday, it was hard work, on hot & humid days, sometimes sunny sometimes rainy, but I toughed it out.

In the end I saved my money, all $242.91, went to Times Camera in downtown Cedar Rapids Iowa and bought my first SLR interchangeable lens 35mm camera, a Canon FTb QL with a 50mm f1.8 lens. Up until then I had used a Kodak 126 instamatic, a Kodak 110 instamatic, and a Kodak Dualflex IV 620 camera. On that day I went home with the Camera & Lens, ever ready case, camera strap and Honeywell auto strobonar 110 flash. The never ready case I would sell years later, at some point the flash died, and I would go on upgrade the strap, but I would continue to use the camera and lens. In fact I still have and use my FTb, it has been a workhorse and has always been there for me across the years (by the way I still have my Kodak Dualflex IV as well.)

So why is this so important, because I realized this was the defining moment in my life, though I didn't know it then. It was when I developed my love for photography that I still have.

and yes that is my Boy Scout shirt
