To my brides,
Here’s the advice I wish every bride could hear before her wedding day:
Don’t rush through it.
You will spend months, sometimes years, waiting for this day, and then somehow it will pass faster than almost anything else in your life.
Give yourself permission to be present in it.
Take a minute after your hair and makeup is finished and really look at yourself. Put the dress on slowly. Let yourself feel beautiful. Let your mom, your sister, your best friend, or whoever is there with you have that moment too.
And please don’t skimp on the photos of that part.
Not because you need a hundred photos of your dress, but because one day you may want to remember exactly what you looked like before everything started. The way your hair fell. The way your makeup looked. The way you held your hands when you were nervous. The version of you who was standing there, about to step into a completely new chapter of her life.
Don’t build your day around what you think a wedding is supposed to look like.
Invite who you want there. Leave out what doesn’t matter to you. Say your vows somewhere quiet if that feels right. Have the big celebration if that’s what you’ve always wanted.
But whatever kind of day you choose, make room for the moments you can’t redo.
The look on your partner’s face when they see you.
The way your people laugh when nobody is posing.
The few quiet seconds when it all finally sinks in.
Years from now, you probably won’t care if every little detail went perfectly.
You’ll care about how it felt.
So give yourself enough time to feel it.
