Caleb J Photography Capturing the beauty of upstate New York- I first became a photographer because of my love for the outdoors.

Since then my goal has always been to inspire people to get outdoors and enjoy the beauty that can be found in the wild. I want you all to see the fantasy in reality that nature provides. Too often we forget what a magical planet we live on. I think that most photographers would agree that what we do is a form of art. As an artist, my photography is an expression of how I see the world we live in. Thank you so much for letting me share that vision with you.

Walking into this field felt as if I was walking into a dream. The sun was slowly setting behind the mountains. There was a soft, warm breeze blowing across the valley floor and the flowers danced to and fro, as the clouds above moved swiftly across the sky. Bumble bees were buzzing among the magnificent field of purple that lay before me and my breath began to slow with each passing moment. I took a knee and tried to breathe this moment into my soul. It felt like a dream. I thought to myself, “Is this what heaven is like?” Perhaps heaven is a collection of miraculous moments and maybe we’re supposed to collect as many as we can. Maybe we get to live in those moments when our time comes to pass. If that truly is the case, I am certainly taking this one with me.

My alarm watch began vibrating against my wrist at 3:50 AM. It was not easy to get out of bed at that hour, but I had a feeling that it was going to be a colorful morning. So I peeled myself out of bed and hopped in the shower. As I headed over the mountain, the clouds didn’t teally look like anything special but I know it’s always better to go and see what happens anyway. So that’s what I did. I arrived at the Cobleskill Reservoir about a half an hour before sunrise. As I got out of my car, I was overwhelmed by the sound of insects and birds and frogs all singing their songs. As I walked through thick bushes and came upon the water, I saw a beaver hop into the water and swim from the shore and then slap his tail to warn all his friends that a visitor had arrived. I started looking around for a place to set up my camera. There’s always quite a few different spots at the reservoir. I started taking pictures next to the shoreline, but it just didn’t seem like the best viewpoint. So I began to look around and I saw a patch of daisies off in the bushes and a broken branch. I knew instantly that was where I wanted to be. The air was thick and warm. I began sweating almost instantly, but the grass was dry, and the sunrise was getting colorful. So I knelt down in the grass, set up my camera and started shooting away. It was a beautiful sight. After I shot the sunrise, I walked along the shoreline and ran into a beautiful mother snapping turtle digging in preparation for her young. Then I saw numerous families of geese with their young waddling behind them and a beaver lodge with a beaver circling in the water just nearby. Getting up at 4am is no easy task, but man is it rewarding. The place was so alive and magical and I’m so glad that I was there to witness it. What makes it even more special is that today is my wife’s birthday. The one is dedicated to you my love!

How can you not fall in love with this place that we call home?

I’ve always been a man of the mountains. I love hiking and always find myself amazed by the magic to be found within the forest. Yet somehow, Schoharie Valley with its endless fields, farms and rolling hills has captured a part of my heart I didn’t know was there. Yes, I do believe the country life is for me.

Here’s an image from a few days back. I’ll certainly be returning to this location in the future. It’s quite a magnificent sight. I’m not sure this image does this view quite the justice it deserves, but here it is anyway. Hope you enjoy

Just a little Schoharie Valley beauty. I captured this one last week while I was on my way to work. It was about 5am and the weather was surprisingly cool. The grass was covered in dew and the air smelled of fresh cut grass.
