Today’s Park profile is on Artist Lake, a gift to us from the last ice age. Its irregular shape (known as a kettlehole) was formed by the melting of massive chunks of partially buried glacial ice. Located in Middle Island, off NYS Route 25, the lake offers a nice quiet place to picnic, fish, kayak, or canoe. Artist Lake contains an assortment of warmwater fishes such as largemouth bass, chain pickerel, bluegill, pumpkinseed, black crappie, yellow perch, and brown bullhead. two New York State catch and release angler achievement awards for largemouth bass measuring over 20 inches long. As the weather warms this Spring, keep this gem in mind as a great spot to sit-back, relax, or cast a rod!
