A 54-year-old man, whose identity was not disclosed, arrived urgently at a hospital in a rural area of Brazil about six hours after suffering an alleged snakebite while handling wood in a shed.
The patient was experiencing intense pain, extreme swelling, and discoloration in his left forearm and hand, along with tingling and difficulty moving his fingers. During treatment, he surprised the doctors by pulling from a plastic bag the dead snake that, according to him, had attacked him.
Due to the rapid progression of the injury and the vascular risk, he was taken immediately to surgery, where they detected severe tissue damage and muscle involvement in the affected limb.
