Received an "Achievement in Originality" award for one of my all-time favorite images I've made.

One of my first baby pictures of my daughter, Miabella lying on her back in her mother's, my wife's, hands.

Shot on a black background, I covered my wife with a black cloth with only her hands sticking out, In order to keep the one strobe's light on Miabella and off the background and my wife, I bounced the light off a silver umbrella closed down to almost as far as it would go.

One of my favorite photography genres is Environmental Portraits. They are portraits of people in their workplace or working on their passion or hobbies. This series is of a good friend of mine who makes his own cooking, hunting, camping, etc, knives from scratch. It’s amazing to see the works of art that are his knives. Truly impressive!!

This picture, although it looks simple, it had its challenges: 1. I had to shoot at a high shutter speed to freeze the motorcycle but at the same time allow for slight movement in the front tire to show movement. If the shutter speed is too slow, the rider and bike will be a blur. If it’s too fast, everything looks ‘frozen’ and possibly underexposed. 2. I also wanted to be sure that the rider’s eyes were clearly visible and well- lit because the helmet’s visor threw a shadow on his face. Seeing the subject’s eyes makes the difference (see the shot in this series that did not have the flashes on) 3. I wanted to shoot from a low angle to show ‘power’ and take advantage to the blue sky background. In one of the behind the scenes pics you will see me on the ground and the motorcycle flying by me dangerously close.



In order to get the rider’s eyes lit correctly, I used three speedlites triggered by a wireless camera-mounted trigger, and an assistant (in this case it was famed photographer, my instructor in a workshop I took in Colorado Springs) holding the lights and following the rider.



I adjusted the shutter speed (1/600 sec.) and aperture (f.11) as well as the strobes’ power. We had three riders going around the track for us.

For actors, headshots are their business card. Yes, most casting directors and agents don't require your headshot in printed form, they are only requiring a digital version.

Getting your headshot and portrait done are personal experience and can be intimidating. Afterall, your headshot potentially will be seen by hundreds or thousands of people. No pressure there to look good, right? :-)
