I was enjoying one of life's little guilty pleasures today watching Netflix. I had read "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" several years ago when I first got my Kindle. I had seen the movie listed, but it was the Swedish version and for some reason I didn't think it came with subtitles. I had seen reviews of the English language version and they weren't very positive, but I had a lazy afternoon so I dialed up the Swedish language version (with subtitles as it turns out) and it was fabulous!
The author, Stieg Larsson, has created one of the great characters in fiction with Lisbeth Salander. I had seen reviews of the book before, but when I got my new Kindle (from my brother Dick Fisher) a few Christmas's ago it was on sale for $1.95 so I dialed it in. I could not put it down, and devoured the following two books ("The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest") immediately. Now (Spoiler Alert) as readers may know, Stieg Larsson presented his publisher with three novels, but also with the rough outlines for seven more. Unfortunately he died unexpectedly at a relatively young age, and never finished another novel. As a result, there really is no closure for those who get caught up in the Lisbeth Salander saga.
It did really bother me, but maybe in the great tradition of "Casablanca", it's better to just let her go unfinished. Maybe no real closure that would be satisfactory is possible. Anyway, if you have read the novels (or even if you haven't), the Swedish language version of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is spellbinding, and dead bang on (even with the subtitles!). Also, the Swedish version is the full trilogy, so get some popcorn and a Snickers, because you are going to be watching for about nine hours. (Don't worry, at the end you will wish it was another nine hours!)
And it is Sunday night, so here are a couple of pictures of my favorite Slovakian taken this week at Michael Fryd's studio with the help of Elana Melnichenco doing hair and makeup.

PS: These are the Facebook Friendly versions of these photos. The originals are a little more interesting (okay, one is a lot more interesting!).
