Something is stirring in the Hollow.

For twenty-five years I have been keeping a story for you. This week, I finally get to turn the page.

I have something I have wanted to say my whole life, and today I finally get to say it out loud.

๐ˆ ๐š๐ฆ ๐š ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก๐ž๐ ๐š๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ซ

My publisher is aiming to have finished copies on the shelves by November, hopefully before Christmas, and right now we are deep in final edits and choosing the cover and artwork.

What I wanted was never complicated.
I wanted to write something worth reading and have it traditionally picked up, not self published, and no matter what comes next, standing at this finish line feels every bit as good as I always believed it would. I have also signed a two book deal, and I still have the freedom to send my other manuscripts wherever I choose.

The people who get here rarely get here alone, and I certainly did not. To everyone who pushed me forward, who read every rough draft I ever handed them and looked me in the eye and said "Yes, Jen, go for it," thank you from the deepest part of me. I value you more than you will ever understand.

Now that I am a working writer (EK!), with the honor of writing a few days a week for Hollywood Life, and for two newspapers I find myself seeing the world a little differently.

We live in a culture that is often quicker to tear something down than to sit quietly with it, quicker to pick apart a person's art than to let it move them.

And yet here I am, building a life shaped by the things I love most. Writing, photography, the quiet magic of capturing a moment or a story and handing it to someone who feels it too.

To spend my days surrounded by the arts, alongside people who genuinely appreciate myself and my girls, is a gift I do not take lightly. Being seen for who I am and what I am capable of has touched me in ways I am still learning how to describe.

This is only the beginning, and I am so grateful you are here for it.

Hello, beautiful people,

Once upon an autumn, on the edge of a Pennsylvania wood, five strange Sundays fell one after another like leaves. Something gathered in the fog those evenings. Something in lace, in feathers, in firelight. And this year, you are invited to be part of it.

Full glamour by candlelight, ball gowns, opera gloves, ornate masks, and jewelry in deep jewel tones, black, and gold. There is a little girl somewhere in my memory who figured out that a camera could hold a moment still. She did not have the words for it then, only the wonder of realizing that light and time and a small clicking machine could conspire to keep beauty exactly where she left it. That discovery never quite let me go, and honestly, I stopped trying to shake it a long time ago.

Photography became the way I understood the world. It taught me to notice the way a hand rests on a shoulder, the way sunlight decides to linger on a jawline, the way a dancer holds her breath a half second before she leaps. I have spent years chasing those quiet, electric moments where a person forgets to perform and simply is, and I have never once grown tired of it. There is nothing quite as intoxicating as watching humanity be beautiful and knowing you have the privilege of pressing the shutter.

The work has evolved with me, the way any love story does. It began in the woods of make-believe, in fairy tales and horror and magic, in the kinds of stories that let me build entire worlds inside a single frame. From there, it grew into families, into the tender chaos of watching children become themselves right in front of me, into the small ordinary miracles of a life unfolding. And now, most recently, into dance, where the camera meets its match in bodies that already know how to speak without words.

This business is what feeds and shelters my three daughters, and I say that with the fierce practicality of a working mother who is not romantic about the bills. But it is also, and I mean this with my whole chest, a genuine love affair with the people who walk through my door. I do not photograph strangers. I photograph women I have watched grow into themselves, dancers I have followed from their first competitions to their senior years, families whose kids I have known since they were sticky-fingered toddlers refusing to smile on cue. My clients become my people, and my people become my continuing education in what it means to be human.

As we move into a new year, I am reaching toward more of it: more dance and gymnastics studios to collaborate with, more sessions with the models who have taught me how to see, and a real expansion of what we are doing with headshots, which have quietly become one of the most rewarding corners of my work. There is something profoundly satisfying about handing a person a picture that makes them recognize themselves for the first time in years.

If you are the nervous one, come anyway. If you are the self-conscious one, the one who deletes every picture your friends tag you in, the one who has spent a decade convinced you are simply not photogenic, I especially want you. You are the reason I do this. The photograph is only the artifact. The real work is the hour we spend together where you slowly realize that the person in the frame is not a stranger to you, and never was.

Every season brings change, and I have learned that the measure of a life is not how much stays still but how gracefully we move with it, and who we get to walk beside while we do. Here is to another year behind the lens, another year of getting to know you, and another year of chasing that same feeling that little girl found on the day she first understood what a camera could do.
