They’re moving soon, which means the chapter of their lives in the home they love so much is coming to a close. They wanted a documentary session to remember the things they do on the weekends together. Like getting dressed, playing, making coffee with Daddy. But they also wanted a lifestyle session with a little bit of direction to get some more traditional photos of their family together that also highlight some of their favorite parts of their (gorgeous) home. Really thankful to know this family and be able to help them hold onto this season of life! 🏠

I wanted this photo to live on my feed. (A submission from my assignment on reflections.) Especially since we can officially share that we are going to be listing our house here in the next month. The place we love so so much, but have to let go of for the better! We are moving back into the city to be a little closer to all that we love about Memphis. The new baby arrived, so we got their 3rd (out of 4!) Year in the Life session scheduled, and oh my goodness what a joy it is to be with this family! I’ve had the lucky job of photographing them for over a year now and this is the way I think documentary family photography is supposed to be. Long-form storytelling. As the photographer I can make more distinct connections in moments and images and you as the family get more than just a gallery. You get an heirloom of your story!

I realize the algo wants me to post more straightforward work. Smiling faces. People snuggled together. And I promise I have loads of those images! But just for a moment I want to share this one. Last week this family said goodbye to their precious cat, Penny, who lived 13 beautiful years with them. An evening in the park together is something they do as often, so they brought Penny along for one last night of memories. Bubbles, pizza, and of course plenty of Churu treats. She was lucky to have such a wonderful life and family. 🤍
