This year, I am all about sharing more real stories about real people. In a world where we are constantly surrounded by the faux and superficial, it's necessary that we push to keep art and information as authentic as we can. It's also important that we are more intentional about how we choose to connect.
Behind the scenes of this session, little man was fussy and crying when mom and dad realized they had left the bottle in the car quite a distance away from where we were shooting. I had no problems holding him for them while they grabbed the bottle and also took care of older brother (who had to use the restroom).
I sat there and did my best to soothe him. I admired his bright blue eyes as he looked at the sky, little eyelashes fluttering all around, taking in all the environment had to offer.
While I rocked him, all I could think was how special it was that I have developed such intimate relationships with my clients that they trust me enough to sit alone with their babies. I even fed him for part of the time just so I could give mom and dad a break. These are just a small example of real situations that arise all the time during my sessions.
Bottom line- I know it can feel like a s**t show when you're in the thick of it. It can feel exhausting and stressful for parents, but I promise there is always a beautiful moment just waiting to be captured on the other side. Before you know it, those little hands, soft baby curls, gentle snuggles and the squeals of excitement screaming, "mommy, daddy, look at me!"...one day, it's all gone. When I document your family, it's truly all I can think about. It's all a part of the authentic human experience.
