Last week I spoke to my son's 5th-grade class about being a photographer and an entrepreneur. The energy in the room was contagious, and several students even said they’d list photographer as a future profession—and a few even have cameras themselves already. It was wonderful to see such passion for this great art in our nation’s youngsters.
I emphasized the importance of a global education for artists and business owners. Understanding humanity’s diverse experiences is, in my view, vital to any artist and entrepreneur. We are the souls who open doors, not close them. We’re drawn to both the interesting and the uninteresting, because it’s all fascinating to us.
I created flyers that showcase my journey as a photographer. The first photograph I ever took and developed myself in a darkroom was when I was 12—yes, that dates me! My boyfriend at the time wasn’t thrilled to be involved in my work, much like my husband today who would probably prefer not to be in front of the camera.
The rest are candids of me working with clients and a day-in-the-life breakdown of the day-to-day responsibilities of a business owner and photographer. I joke that I left a 9-5 job to work 24/7 for myself, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I genuinely love this life. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this amazing journey!
