Great place that I need to visit more often.

This Meeting Meadville spotlight with Kelly Rhoades Photography features Heather Fish, the creative force behind Hatch Hollow at 945 Market St.

What started as a coworking space in 2018 has grown into something truly special — an art supply store, rotating gallery, coworking community of 30+ remote workers, and now home to the Cattail Cafe through their incubator kitchen. Heather is even working to restore the building's third-floor ballroom into a downtown event space.

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Heather chose to stay in Meadville after graduating from Allegheny College — drawn by the people and the work happening here.

As she puts it: "Meadville wants to see good things and deserves good things."

That's Making It Meadville.

I made this piece in 2017 while working in a collaboration with very interesting artists Margeret Brostrom and George Cooley who did this target piece collective and we showed the works in Pittsburgh.
In light of recent development this piece has renewed significance as we continue the debate about guns and violence-political or not.

When is it too far?

It’s an important question.

Trying not to stew on some recent local art scene stuff.
I’ve been involved in two recent and ongoing projects where I’ve contributed work that have been very disappointing.

Both are out of my control and I hesitate to even bitch about it, accept it effects my work that I take more seriously than my outward demeanor may suggest.

When one makes something and it is altered externally it is breaking a covenant that is hard to overcome.

When you join a collective that should benefit a greater good, but the majority of said collective is apathetic even though their very existence is being threatened. It’s such a frustrating thing.

So tomorrow I go back to work trying to decide which battles to choose.

I may be a tad over the top submitting two pieces for this faculty show with one piece contains one large painting sandwiched with six photographs and accompanied by this second piece asking an important question.

Hello gallery fans! Welcome to the start of a new academic year. Good things are brewing in the gallery as a new show is being prepped and hung. More is soon to come.

When I got into art years ago, it was because I was wanted to say something about the political nature of humanity.

I made protest pieces and then as I progressed in making of things, they became more about philosophies, but still centered around politics and the human condition.

When I became a photojournalist, I had to abandon a lot of my personal feelings in order to be a good journalist. And I take pride in the fact that I was able to do that and continue to do that when I was telling community stories and delving into issues of news. In that life, I am not anything other than a vehicle of documenting that which others express.

I’m pretty confident I do this well, though I’m assured that I’m not perfect.

So this election cycle has me jumping back into my political art and it’s sad to say that I am going to show you some pieces that were done more than 20 or 25 years ago. It is sad because these pieces are as relative to our current state of being today politically as they were then.

Politics and society are cyclical. Progress comes slowly.

If you listen to the arguments against Obamacare and compare them to the arguments against the Social Security act nearly a century earlier you’d be surprised at how absolutely the same rhetoric was spewed.

Yes change comes slow. So slow we have to reinvent how change happens.

I was trying to put together a show during this election season of my works relating to power and equality etc…

I thought I had a couple venues but it looks as though it may not happen. There’s a beautiful place that would be perfect for this exhibition, but because of insurance and transition of ownership and just simply time among many different entities it probably won’t happen . So I’m going to show those images here.

I think they’re still important to see.
