🕊️✨ International Day of Peace – September 21 ✨🕊️

This day calls us to reflect on the power of nonviolence, justice, and unity — values that Dr. Maya Angelou championed in her poetry and activism.

💬 “Hate, it has caused a lot of problems in the world, but has not solved one yet.” – Maya Angelou

May we choose peace, understanding, and compassion in our actions today and every day. 🌍💛

Man risks it all to sleep with an old friend. The relationship began years ago at a wildlife vet where he was volunteering on a late shift. That night, a mountain lion cub was brought in after losing its mother, restless, crying, and unable to sleep. When the man picked her up, something clicked. She curled onto his chest, and only after he whispered and sang softly did she finally drift off. From then on, she would only fall asleep that way, and soon he was taking her home each night so she could rest by his side.

But as she grew stronger, he had no choice but to let her go. Regulations required the young mountain lion to be transferred to a reserve across the border. At first, he visited often, calling her name and laughing as she bounded into his arms like nothing had changed. But over time the visits became harder, and eventually they stopped. He could only wonder if his old friend still remembered him.

Years later, the longing was too strong to ignore. He returned to the reserve, searching the hills and canyons for days, but she never appeared. With hope fading, he tried one last thing, pitching a tent with the flap open and setting up a small camera, just in case.
That night, under the stars, he lay whispering and singing the same songs he had once sung to her as a cub, hoping she might still remember. Hours passed, until suddenly he felt the weight. A familiar warmth pressed against him, followed by the deep rumble of a purr.

On June 22, 2002 at about 11:55 am, Barbara Dee Smith slipped her earthly bounds and began a new journey, I married this most beautiful woman in the world June 23,1964 at 12. As I remember this day now it would have been our 60th anniversary.

I reflect on our first day. We were married at the Las Vegas, Nevada at Little white wedding chapel. I was dress in a wool business suit the only one I had with vest and she was in a yellow dress. We left the chapel in our Volkswagen to go to my first TV job in Chico California. We chose to take the inland route from Vegas to Reno to Tahoe thru Marysville and ended in Chico 12 hours later. The temp was in the high 90's as we journeyed to Reno on Hwy 96 not knowing that they were rebuilding the highway, New highway for 5 miles then dirt road next 5miles almost all the way to Reno.

At our first gas up we bought a loaf of bread, package of Baloney, some mustard, catsup, and mayo. This was our first meal together. Every year thereafter we had baloney sandwiches for our anniversary dinner.

We ventured on and got past Tahoe and decided to take a short cut we saw on our map to Marysville, California. We got lost. It now almost 11 pm we were tired from driving all day hot sun, It was dark no moon in the middle of nowhere, when like out a Twilight Zone comes a one eyed car. It came up to us and rolled down the window and the gentleman asked "Are you lost?". We said yes and he told us to follow him and when we came to fork in the road go right. We followed him and when we arrived at the fork he went left and disappeared into the night. We went right and with in just a few minutes we were on 99 just outside of Chico. We rented a motel room.

Woke up about 11:00 to the most foul doers I have ever smelled. Seems the motel was right next to a slaughter house. The next day I reported for work at KHSL-TV Chico. Sorry this is so long but I had to share it because one of the two people that lived it is gone, so there is no one else that knows about it to share and remember. So I decided again to share it here so somebody else knows but its not the same.

God has blessed me in so many ways in this long journey no man deserves the many blessing I have received. This was just one.
Attached is a special picture of her, it was the very first frame on my first roll of film I shot with my new Canon AE1.
