Hidden Wonders Photography by Barry

Hidden Wonders Photography by Barry Enjoy the wonder of our place in the universe. We live in an amazing place in the universe yet the wonders of the world around us are often unseen or unnoticed.

We find ourselves too busy to pay attention or not in the right place at the right time. My goal is to capture some of that hidden wonder and brighten your day. Side notes: I do use photoediting tools for artistic effect. My intent with processing is to better capture what our eyes see. In the case of night photography, the intent is to capture objects that are there but can't readily be seen with

our limited night vision. However, I do not create scenes that did not occur or are impossible in nature (e.g., place the Milky Way arcing over a major city, place a moon someplace it wasn't, etc.) I hope you enjoy along with me. All images are copyrighted.

A year ago I said 2020 was going to be the year of perfect vision. Classic “dad joke”. Now that it is behind us, and hindsight being 20/20 (sorry, I couldn’t resist), it is clear that the year brought important issues into focus. The value of health and relationships belong on any list.

I’m thankful visiting relatively solitary outdoor locations remained available to me throughout the year. I find renewal there, whether with camera, fly rod, or backpack.

To mark a year where relatively little went according to plan, I decided to highlight a few of my favorite photographic moments where advance planning worked out - in spite of uncontrollable factors like weather. Quoting a favorite childhood TV character: “I love it when a plan comes together!”

1: May sunset from a remote part of Devil’s Lake State Park.
2: Comet NEOWISE from Turville Point.
3: Campsite in the Wind River Range of Wyoming.
4: Fall color from an off-trail viewpoint at Governor Dodge State Park.

May you have a fantastic 2021!

Walk on water season again.

I’ll go out on a ledge on the side of a cliff, but am pretty cautious with ice. These two seemed pretty comfortable on new ice.

A lot of cloudy days this December, but grateful for a few breaks in the clouds.

Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn with the crescent moon tonight.  Dodging the clouds with .  Hoping for clear skies as we get closer to the 21st when they reach 0.1 degrees apart, as I missed it when they were that close 800 years ago.

Swipe for pano 👉🏽

Fall panorama of Twin Valley Lake. Had to wait out a thunderstorm before crawling out on this ledge barely wide enough to fit my tripod. I’m sure none of you have ever done anything risky to get a shot.....

A beautiful night under the stars in the Winds. It was cool to discover this small falls amongst the towering peaks of the divide.

This is a composite two-position vertical pano shot at ISO6400, f2.8 and 24 mm. The sky was exposed for 20 secs while the ground was exposed for 80 secs. Multiple captures at each exposure and position-the most complex series I’ve ever put together. Starry Landscape Stacker, Photoshop, and Topaz Denoise helped to obtain this image.
