Can I share my heart with you?
Autumn has definitely arrived in New England, surrounding us with color so vivid we can almost touch it, breathe it in.
We feel it in our souls. It’s one of the reasons we stay here—even when winter tests our resolve.
This year, however, autumn feels bittersweet. Last month, I lost my mom. I’m so grateful that we celebrated her 90th birthday together this summer, that I took so many photographs while I was there, and that I have a lifetime of memories to hold close. Some are joyful, some are ordinary, and some are difficult—but each one is part of our story. Most of all, I’m grateful I could be down in Florida with Mom, holding her hand, when her autumn came to an end.
I returned to Boston with one of my greatest treasures: a large stack of family photographs. When I was young, Mom was always taking pictures—and back in those days, there wasn’t a ‘digital’ option. We printed every picture. Looking through those printed photographs with my siblings while in Florida, then sharing them with family and close friends at home, reminded me just how powerful a photograph can be. It brings people, places, and moments in time right back to us.
I hadn’t connected the dots before, but I now realize that my mom was the person who first introduced me to photography. She even arranged for her friend to give me a photography lesson in my younger years. Picking up a camera to preserve memories felt natural, and years later that purpose inspired my business slogan: “Capturing life’s memories.”
My mom’s photographs are now priceless to me, and they have deepened my commitment to creating meaningful portraits for other families. The people we love deserve to be celebrated—not only on a screen, but in portraits that fill our homes with connection, belonging, and love. Seeing themselves on our walls reminds our families that they are known, valued, and cherished.
This autumn, hold your loved ones a little closer. Take the time to express your love to them. And preserve this season of your family’s story with a portrait.
I would be honored to create this beautiful portrait that becomes part of your legacy.
